Armed Forces Day celebration in Queen’s Park on 28 June
Charnwood will honour the Armed Forces community with a special event in Loughborough’s Queen’s Park next month.
Charnwood Borough Council is hosting an Armed Forces Day celebration event on Saturday, June 28. The event will take place from 11am until 3pm and is free to attend.
The day offers a packed programme of entertainment and activities, including military displays, live performances, community stalls, and family attractions.
Visitors can enjoy music, food, parades, and a special moment of reflection at 12.30pm to honour the courage and commitment of our service personnel past and present.
Cllr Jennifer Tillotson, the Council’s lead member for housing, economic development, regeneration and town centres, said: “Armed Forces Day is a wonderful opportunity for our community to come together and show our appreciation for the incredible dedication and sacrifice made by our Armed Forces.
“Events like this not only honour our service personnel but also bring vibrancy and footfall to our town centre, supporting local businesses and uniting the community.
“We’re proud to host this celebration in Queens Park, and I encourage everyone to come along and enjoy what promises to be a memorable day.”
Cllr Liz Blackshaw, the Council’s Armed Forces Champion, said: “With the 80th anniversaries of VE Day and VJ Day in May and August respectively, 2025 is shaping up to be a huge year for the Armed Forces community.
“It is great that we have been able to host a celebration event for Armed Forces Day so that we can show the Armed Forces and their families that the residents of Charnwood support them and the entire community.”
Highlights of the day include:
- Military vehicles and equipment on display
- Cadet parades and demonstrations
- Handcrafted market stalls and local produce
- Live music and themed performances
- Interactive children’s activities such as face painting, crafts, and trail challenges
- A variety of street food and refreshments
Queen’s Park is accessible with level paths and accessible facilities. Dogs are welcome on leads.
Visitors are encouraged to share photos, tributes and updates from their day using #AFDLboro on social media.
The event is part-funded by the Government’s UK Shared Prosperity Fund (UKSPF).
