An update from the Active Charnwood Team
Virtual Summer Holiday Activity Programme for Families
The fourth week of Active Charnwood's virtual Healthy at Home timetable of summer holiday activities is underway and there's lots for the family to take part in, including biking, cricket and exploring the outdoors.
The timetable for the virtual programme can be viewed on the website. To keep up to date with the timetable follow Active Charnwood on Twitter @ActiveCharnwood or like their Facebook page: www.facebook.com/activecharnwood.
Fix your bike voucher scheme
The Fix your Bike Voucher Scheme allows members of the public to receive a voucher worth up to £50 which can be used towards the cost of repairing a bicycle. The scheme is open to anyone in England who has an unused cycle in need of a repair.
This scheme has been set up to encourage more people to embrace cycling, and to promote an alternative to public transport, while social distancing measures are in place. It also aims to help reduce the number of short journeys made by cars.
Vouchers can only be used with bike repairers or mechanics that are registered for the scheme in England, and up to two vouchers can be claimed per household.
There are a limited number of vouchers available, so if there aren't any vouchers available when you check, keep looking regularly as they are being released gradually.
The scheme works by:
- Finding a local Fix your Bike Voucher Scheme-registered bike mechanic to repair your bike, using Energy Saving Trust's map of participating bike shops and mechanics.
- Apply for a £50 voucher on the Energy Saving Trust website.
- Bring your bike in to your chosen repairer to be fixed, using the voucher to cover up to £50 of the total cost of the repairs needed.
- Enjoy cycling again.
Leicester to Tokyo Physical Activity Challenge

You can become a virtual Olympic superstar by logging your walking, running, cycling, and swimming activity over the next three weeks activity and joining in a countywide team effort to cover the virtual 5,894 miles to Tokyo before Sunday August 9.

Get Active Together in our Fabulous Green Spaces in Charnwood
The Active Charnwood Team are working alongside Leicestershire & Rutland Sport to promote local green spaces through the Active Together Campaign. Getting out in the fresh air for a walk, run, or cycle is a fantastic way to not only improve our physical health but our mental wellbeing. From miles of footpaths and cycle tracks, to local parks and woodlands right here on your doorstep.
Building some outdoor activity into your routine can help you feel good and stay healthy during the Covid pandemic and beyond. By taking some time out of your busy day to relax and use your senses to reflect on your natural surroundings you can benefit from an extra lift to your mood and self-esteem.
