Volunteers who are offering their time, skills or experience to support the people and businesses of Charnwood are being thanked this week.
As part of national Volunteers Week, Charnwood Borough Council is highlighting on social media some of the many individuals who have been going above and beyond.
The council will share messages of thanks for all those who have spared their time, in recognition of the important work that volunteers do.
Garden waste to return to fortnightly collections
Charnwood Borough Council is returning its garden waste service to its normal fortnightly collections from Monday June 15.
The service has been operating in a limited capacity since the end of April following a period of suspension due to the coronavirus pandemic.
However, the Council and its waste partner Serco say staffing levels will now allow the fortnightly collections to resume.
It also means that from June 15, customers will leave their bins out on their normal garden waste collection day and not a Monday as they have been asked to do over the past few weeks.
The schedule is available on the Council website.
Council launches campaign to help local companies connect with customers
Charnwood Borough Council has launched the Charnwood inBusiness campaign to help local companies connect with their customers as they battle back from the economic impact of the coronavirus pandemic.
The Council has teamed up with the Leicester Mercury, Leicestershire Live, Loughborough and Shepshed Echo and Fosse 107 to offer local companies the chance to take a free advert and let tens of thousands of people know that they are very much open for business.
The Council will also highlight local businesses, their successes and their stories, on its own social media accounts and website as part of the campaign.
Help shape Loughborough Town Deal
Residents and businesses in Loughborough are being encouraged to help a planned consultation on the Loughborough Town Deal.
The Loughborough Town Deal is an opportunity to secure up to £25 million of government funding to transform the town’s economic growth and play a key role in recovery. It is being led by a range of partners including Charnwood Borough Council.
An investment plan is being drawn up which will set out a vision for building on the town’s unique strengths and a consultation is planned for later this month.
Discretionary grant launched to support struggling businesses
Small businesses across Charnwood who have been financially hit by the coronavirus pandemic can now apply for a grant of up to £25,000.
Charnwood Borough Council has launched its business discretionary grant fund for companies that have previously been unable to claim government financial support.
The £1.6 million is open to small businesses that can demonstrate they have been significantly affected by COVID-19.
The council is particularly keen to see applications from businesses that support local jobs and provide services that will be important to communities when recovering from the pandemic.
