Planting gets underway at Outwoods
Over a thousand trees have been planted at the Outwoods in Loughborough to help the ancient woodland flourish.
Charnwood Borough Council which maintains the Outwoods, working alongside the Outwoods Management Committee has planted the trees as part of a restoration project to help return the Outwoods back to its former glory of a natural acid oak woodland.
Armed Forces project in national awards final three
A project which supports the armed forces community in Charnwood, Rushcliffe and Melton has been shortlisted as one of only three finalists in the in the Forces in Mind Trust, Working Together category of the national Soldiering on Awards.
The partnership between Charnwood, Rushcliffe and Melton Borough Councils encourages understanding and awareness of the issues affecting veterans and their families within the local community.
Community comes together to replace vandalised trees
The local community have come together to ensure 30 trees which were vandalised at Charnwood Water in Loughborough have been replaced.
Park rangers who work for the borough Council’s open spaces partner Idverde recently discovered the trees which had been planted last year, had been either uprooted or broken.
The trees were originally planted by members of the Sikh community to celebrate 550 years of the birth Guru Nanak, the founder of Sikhism.
