New competition for our young fire service enthusiasts

darcey

It's #TeamCambsFire competition time! We want to hear from all of our young fire service enthusiasts in Cambridgeshire and Peterborough (under 12 years old)!

We know things have been a little different this year, and we haven’t been able to hold our open days like normal. We know lots of children have been disappointed they haven’t been able to see our big red trucks up close or meet our firefighters.

And we’ve missed seeing you all too!

Inspired by Junior Firefighter Darcey earlier in the year, we’re running a little competition. We want to see video clips of our aspiring firefighters.

Post them on our social media pages, send them to us at pressoffice@cambsfire.gov.uk or message us privately on social media. Make sure you include their name and age. The deadline for entries is Monday 7 December 2020.

Be as creative as you like. You could set up challenges for them to complete, they could tell us why being a firefighter is the best job in the world, or an important fire safety message.

We’ll have a special prize for the best entries in each age category and we’ll even make sure they arrive before Christmas.

We look forward to seeing our next generation of superheroes!

Stay safe in the home this Christmas

christmas

As lots of us get into the festive spirit, it's really important that we take extra care to make sure it's a safe Christmas.

Whether it's too early for decorations or not, the message is the same - Don't overload your plug sockets. If you're using a multi-socket extension you need to be careful not to overload it. Check out this handy calculator to make sure you're not overloading your socket.

smoke alarm

A smoke alarm is the single most important thing you need in your home - it will alert you to a fire and give you precious minutes to escape to safety. Make sure you have one on every floor of your home and test them regularly.

You can buy them from most large supermarkets and online.

Follow the latest Covid-19 restrictions

hands face space

Cambridgeshire will be in tier two when England's second lockdown ends on 2 December.

There are three simple actions we must all do to keep on protecting ourselves and each other:

  •  Wash your hands - keep washing your hands regularly
  • Cover your face - wear a face covering in enclosed spaces
  • Make space - stay at least two metres apart - or one metre with a face covering or other precautions.

Protect our loved ones, the most vulnerable in our communities and the NHS, to help us get back to the things we love sooner. To get a test, call 119 or visit bit.ly/3ni1ftl.
