Every adult can now get vaccinated

Vaccine

The NHS is now offering COVID-19 vaccinations to all adults with eligibility extended to 18-20-year-olds today.

More than 4 out of 5 adults - over 42 million people - have now had at least one dose of a COVID-19 vaccine and more than 30 million people have had both doses.

So far, the NHS in Bedfordshire, Luton and Milton Keynes has dispensed over 960,000 vaccinations, and appointments are still available for those in the initial cohorts who have not yet been protected.

  • Anyone over 18 can BOOK a vaccination now or have their first Pfizer vaccination by using the NHS walk-in centres to get their jab.  No appointment needed.
  • Anyone over 40 can now go to a walk-in vaccination centre to get their first or second Astra-Zeneca dose.
  • Anyone over 40 can now book their second jab on the national booking system from eight weeks after their first dose.

Analysis from Public Health England suggests a single dose of Pfizer or AstraZeneca vaccines reduce your chances of catching coronavirus and then needing to go to hospital with it by about three quarters.

The effect of the vaccine does not depend on the variant: a single dose of vaccine is just as good at preventing hospitalisation for Delta as for Alpha.

So get your vaccine now!

Football’s coming home – but open a window!

England host Scotland at Wembley tonight and if you’re not one of the lucky few with a ticket you may be watching at home or the pub.

It looks like the weather will be against watching in a pub garden tonight so we’ll have to watch indoors. If you're going out, or having friends round to watch, then keep safe from COVID-19 by remembering these tips:

  • Open a window to let fresh air in and disperse the virus.
  • Keep a safe distance from each other.
  • Keep the numbers down - you can have up to six people indoors (or two households).
  • If you’re at the pub or restaurant, wear a mask when moving around.
  • And finally - whatever the result, don’t hug anyone who’s not part of your household!
