Over 30? Get vaccinated

On 27 May, Public Health England (PHE) published its latest report showing that the COVID-19 vaccination programme prevented over 13,000 deaths in those aged 60 and prevented almost 40,000 hospitalisations in those aged 65 and older in England.

You may not be concerned about the impact of Covid-19 on yourself, but by getting vaccinated you can play a part in protecting others.

If you're aged 30 or over (or if you turn 30 before 1 July 2021), you can now book your COVID-19 vaccine.

To arrange your vaccination appointment, you can:

If you are over 40

Anyone aged 40 and over can book an appointment through the National Booking Service or  simply walk into a number of vaccination centres in Bedford, Dunstable, Luton and Milton Keynes this week without the need for an appointment.

Check the venue details and opening hours on the BLMK CCG website.

You can receive your first dose or second dose of the AstraZeneca vaccine at these centres.

The second dose can only be given to those who have waited a minimum of eight weeks from their first dose of AstraZeneca. You must bring your card from your first appointment.

Second doses

Some people may be feeling concerned that they haven’t received an appointment for their second dose yet. This will be because centres are not booking people in until they have had confirmation of vaccine supply.

Nobody will be forgotten.

If you received your first vaccine through an appointment made by your GP Practice, they will contact you by the 8th week to book you in. If you are already in your 8th week and haven’t received an appointment, please contact your GP in the first instance.

If you received your first vaccine by calling 119 or the National Booking Service please go back through this method to book your second dose. Don’t be concerned if you can’t see an appointment straight away, bookings are released daily, so keep trying.

Alternatively, keep an eye out for drop-in clinics where you can get your second dose of AstraZeneca as long as it is 8 weeks after your first one, you must bring your card from your first appointment.

Bringing forward second dose appointments

To get maximum protection everyone will need to get a second dose.

The Government and the JCVI have announced that second dose appointments will be brought forward from 12 to 8 weeks.

If your original appointment was with your GP, they will contact you and rearrange.

If you booked through the National Booking System and have been contacted to bring your appointment forward, you should go online to the National Booking Service and book your new second dose appointment, or call 119.

Further information is available on the BLMK CCG website.

Second dose appointments at Biggleswade Hospital or Priory House

In order to bring people’s second appointments forward to the revised 8-week period the NHS are in the process of cancelling AstraZeneca appointments that were booked at Priory House and Biggleswade Hospital vaccination centres.

If you had an appointment booked for your second dose of AstraZeneca at either Biggleswade Hospital or Priory House, Shefford it has been cancelled and an earlier appointment is available at The Rufus Centre in Flitwick or The Weatherly Centre in Biggleswade. This will need to be rebooked through the National Booking System or calling 119.

Alternatively, as long as your original appointment was over 8-weeks ago you can use the drop-in facilities.

COVID-19 Vaccination Enquiry Line

A COVID-19 vaccination enquiry line has been established to help people who can’t find the answer to their vaccination query on the FAQ sheets on the CCG website.

This help line cannot be used to discuss personal patient information or to book a vaccination appointment. It is another channel to keep people informed if they are uncertain about the COVID-19 vaccination programme.
