Coronavirus update

As part of the government’s UK-wide drive to increase COVID-19 testing, a new test centre for people with symptoms has opened at Steppingley Road, Flitwick. This will improve the availability of testing in the local area and the wider community too. The testing centre is located on the site of the former leisure centre car park.

The new site is a walk-through test centre and open from 8am to 8pm, 7 days a week.

This test centre is only for those with coronavirus symptoms – a high temperature, a new, continuous cough, or a loss or change to sense of smell or taste.

The site is operated on an appointment-only basis and tests at this centre can be booked on the NHS website or by calling 119. Appointments will be made available each day.

Important

There is also another testing centre at the new leisure centre site. This testing site is specifically for people who do not have symptoms but live or work in Central Bedfordshire who, are unable to work from home and are in a customer facing role. Visitors to either sites are advised to follow the signs to ensure they go to the correct centre.

Anyone attending an appointment at a walk-through testing site will be provided with guidance on getting to and from the test site safely.

For further information and guidance can be found here.

Watch out for vaccine scams

Unfortunately some criminals are taking advantage of the roll out of the coronavirus vaccine to commit fraud.

The most important point to remember is that the vaccine is free of charge.

The NHS will never:

  • ask you for your bank account or card details
  • ask you for your PIN or banking password
  • arrive unannounced to your home to administer the vaccine
  • ask you to prove your identity by sending copies of personal documents such as your passport, driving licence, bills or pay slips
