Supporting you through the pandemic

#CouncilsCan

Today we’ve been taking part in the Local Government Association’s second #CouncilsCan Day, an online celebration to highlight the critical work of local government during the coronavirus pandemic.

Throughout the day we’ve been sharing news stories and statistics across our Twitter, Facebook and Instagram accounts, highlighting some of the things we’ve done to keep services running during this crisis, and to support residents and businesses.

It has been an opportunity to reflect on our achievements during this tough period, and one thing that is apparent to me is that our successes have only been possible thanks to the understanding and adaptability of the public, and the support of our fantastic voluntary organisations.

When we decided to take part in #CouncilsCan Day, we didn’t know that we would be back in lockdown. We know it’s tough for everyone adapting to constantly changing guidance, but I hope that today’s posts give you some assurances that we are doing all we can to support you through the pandemic.

It has been inspiring to see how the community has pulled together during this time, and I encourage you all to keep going with your efforts to support one another. To aid these efforts we’ve recently recruited 195 Community Champions - volunteers who are helping to share our coronavirus information in their communities - and I am extremely grateful for their efforts.

You can see a roundup of today’s posts on our website, and we’ve put together the infographic below to highlight our achievements during the first lockdown, as well as some of the things we’ve done since then.

Thank you for your ongoing support. For more information on how Coronavirus is impacting our services, visit our website.

Anyone with coronavirus symptoms can get a test.

Coronavirus symptoms are:

  • a high temperature
  • a new, continuous cough
  • a loss or change to your sense of smell or taste

You can get a test for someone you live with if they have these symptoms. Do not get tests for people you live with who do not have these symptoms.

Stay at home if you have symptoms

If you are getting a test because you have symptoms, you and anyone you live with must stay at home until you get your result.

Have you downloaded the NHS COVID-19 App?

The app is available for smartphones only - not tablets, smartwatches or other devices.

To get started, go to Android's Google Play or Apple's App Store and search for "NHS Covid-19".

The handsets must have Android 6.0 (released in 2015) or iOS 13.5 (released in May 2020) and Bluetooth 4.0 or higher. That excludes the iPhone 6 and older versions of Apple's handsets.

Further information is available on the NHS website. This also gives information on how to report an issue or if you have any questions about this product.
