Positive change in Maescader
We are pleased to share the significant improvements achieved in Maescader through strong partnership working between Carmarthenshire County Council, Dyfed Powys Police and the local community. This work highlights the positive impact of early intervention, sustained engagement and proportionate enforcement.
Over the past year, focused joint action has led to measurable reductions in crime, anti-social behaviour and demand on emergency services, helping to create safer and more stable neighbourhoods.
Dyfed Powys Police have formally recognised this progress, noting that recent statistics show a significant reduction in emergency service demand and crime, made possible through effective partnership working and ongoing engagement in the area.
Measurable results
A year-on-year comparison shows a reduction of more than 50% in calls to emergency services:
- 2024-2025: 150 calls
- 2025-2026: 71 calls
This includes reductions in:
- Anti-social behaviour: 16 to 4
- Domestic violence: 40 to 18
- Criminal damage: 3 to 1
These improvements have contributed to safer neighbourhoods, increased confidence in local services and a visible improvement in the area.
Positive and proportionate action
Alongside preventative work, firm and proportionate action continues where required. In one case, following repeated attempts to support a tenant to improve the condition of their property, the County Court granted possession of the home back to the Council. This action reinforces our commitment to maintaining safe, well-managed communities.
Continuing our commitment
As a result of proactive work by the housing anti-social behaviour team - including joint evening and weekend patrols with Dyfed Powys Police - and the willingness of residents to report concerns, Maescader has seen a significant reduction in reported issues.
This success would not have been possible without the dedication and commitment of our officers:
- Melanie Thomas, Anti-Social Behaviour Officer
- Maria Evans, Housing Officer
- Cathie Davies, Housing Support Officer
Their continued engagement with residents and visible presence in the community remain central to delivering and sustaining positive change in Maescader.
Your voice matters

We also encourage all tenants and residents to report concerns, whether related to anti-social behaviour, property conditions, or support needs. Your information helps us act quickly and effectively.
Together, we can continue to build safer, stronger communities across Carmarthenshire.
