Changes to the way we take telephone card payments
Changes have been made to the way we take card payments over the phone to better protect your personal details.
The new system means that when making telephone card payments, you will be transferred to an automated secure payment line to input your card details using the keypad of your phone, rather than reading them out loud.
These changes have been introduced by Capita, the payments provider we use.
Residents can still speak to their Housing Officer, Housing Rents Team or Customer Services Advisor initially, but will then be transferred to a private payment line during the card transaction.
Payments can still be made by Direct Debit, standing orders, BACS payments, card payments via the Council website or cash/cheque/card payments at the Council’s Hwbs and automated 24/7 telephone payments.

Preventing and improving condensation and mould in your home
Two people taking part in normal household activities such as cooking, bathing or showering, drying clothes indoors, and using the kettle can produce up to 26 pints of condensation in just one day.
This can be prevented and improved by following these tips daily:
- Dry washing outside
- Never dry washing on radiators
- Try to keep your home’s temperature above 15c
- Place furniture slightly away from walls to increase air flow
- Regularly wipe surfaces covered with condensation and remove mould with an anti-fungicidal spray (use manufacturer’s guidance)
- Always remove mould, do not let it grow
- Never remove mould with a brush or vacuum cleaner as this can spread the spores
- Always cook using pan lids and with extractor fans on
- Fill your bath using cold water first to reduce steam
- Leave trickle vents open throughout the year
- Keep kitchen and bathroom doors closed when cooking or showering and leave an extractor fan on for 20 minutes after (open a window if you don’t have an extractor fan)
If damp or mould continues to develop after using these methods for a couple of months please report this to us.

- Keep portable heaters away from furniture, curtains and bedding
- Don’t leave cooking unattended - especially chip/frying pans
- Test your smoke alarms weekly (contact us if yours is not working)
