Celebrating LGBTQ+ foster carers in Carmarthenshire
This LGBTQ+ Fostering and Adoption Week (3-10 March), we recognised the invaluable contributions of LGBTQ+ foster carers in providing safe, caring, and supportive homes for children and young people in foster care.
As of February 2025, over 10% of fostering households in Carmarthenshire are part of the LGBTQ+ community, highlighting the diversity and inclusivity of our foster care network.
One of our foster carers, who wishes to remain anonymous, shares her journey and experiences of fostering as an LGBTQ+ individual.

Recognising the impact of social workers in Carmarthenshire
This World Social Work Day (18 March), we highlighted the dedication of social workers who make a big difference in the lives of children, young people, families, and foster carers. These social workers play a vital role in ensuring that children and young people in foster care receive the support and stability they need.
Jacky, who has been fostering for 17 years, knows first-hand how important the right support can be. Jacky has been supported by her social worker, Kevin, for the past six years, and she credits him for giving her the confidence and reassurance needed.

The role of pets in foster families
A pet can make all the difference in a foster home. That's why we include pets in your fostering assessment - to make sure they'll get along well with any future foster children.
Having a dog or cat doesn't mean you can't foster - in fact, they can offer another level of support and be a real benefit to a foster family.
