Keeping children and young people local
We've launched a campaign to recruit foster carers, focusing on keeping children and young people local so that they can thrive within their own communities. Every child deserves to feel safe, supported, and connected to their roots, whether through their schools, family, friends, or familiar surroundings.
Local foster carers play a vital role in transforming the lives of children and young people. By choosing Foster Wales Carmarthenshire, carers become part of a supportive and trusted network that is dedicated to making a positive impact.
We'll be holding a series of information events across the county where you can meet the team, ask questions, and find out more about fostering.

Supporting young people in sport
We're proud to sponsor the Inspiring Young Person category at the Actif Carmarthenshire Sports Awards 2024! This award recognises young people who have made a lasting impact through their dedication to sport.
For many children and young people in foster care, sport provides comfort, stability, and a sense of belonging. It builds confidence, resilience, and lifelong skills.

Emma's journey from a fostering household to social work
Growing up in a fostering household in Carmarthenshire, Emma saw first-hand the impact a safe, caring home can have on a child’s life.
Now, as part of the fostering recruitment team, she works to build a community that ensures children and young people can stay in the area they call home.
Love transforms lives, and Emma sees it every day through the incredible work of our foster carers and through the smiling eyes of children.
Her advice for anyone in Carmarthenshire considering fostering is simple:
"Talk to us. We're here to help you understand what fostering involves and to support you every step of the way. It's a big step, but it's one that can change a child's life - and yours."

A foster child's journey in Carmarthenshire
To celebrate Care Day 2025 on Friday, 21 February, a 10-year-old boy who has been in foster care in Carmarthenshire for just over two years, has shared his poem about his moving journey.
Titled 'My Foster life' the poem gives a powerful insight into G's experiences, from the uncertainty of entering care to finding stability, joy and belonging in a caring home.

Foster carers needed for a teenage girl (from Summer/Autumn 2025)
We’re looking for a nurturing and supportive family to provide a safe, and stable home for a teenage girl who is ready to transition from a residential care home into a family environment.
This young person thrives on structure and predictability. She enjoys spending time with others, chatting, and taking part in pamper nights. She wants to make the world a better place, for everyone to be OK, and to have a space to call her own.
What we’re looking for in a family:
- Ideally, a couple who can role model healthy relationships.
- A home with no more than one other child, ideally younger than her.
- A supportive environment where she can experience the normality of family life.
She will need opportunities to explore, experience new places, and gradually build confidence in busier environments. We’re also looking to encourage and support family time with her siblings to retain their relationship.
If you have the patience, empathy, and commitment to provide a nurturing home, we’d love to hear from you.
