Summer What's On

Summer What's On cover featuring a child building with lego

Pick up a copy of our latest What's On in Cambridgeshire Libraries brochure (July-Sept). It’s packed full of the events and activities taking place in your local library. The library is the perfect place to take children, during the long summer holidays. We have the Marvellous Makers Summer Reading Challenge to keep them reading and lots of creative activities to entertain the whole family.

Libraries as Polling Stations

Sign reading Polling Station attached to railings

Arbury Court Library, Milton Road Library, Chatteris Library, and Ramsey Library will be used as Polling Stations for the upcoming general election on Thursday 4th July 2024.

Consequently, they will not be open as libraries on that day and there will be no storytime sessions. Our apologies for the inconvenience.

Our Arbury Court and Milton Road storytimes will return on Thursday 11th July. We look forward to seeing you then!

The Mobile Library will also be used as a polling station. Route C4, which covers Harlton, Haslingfield, Harston, and Hauxton, will be affected on the 4th July. The Mobile Library will be visiting on  Thursday 11th instead.

Disability Pride Month

Disability Pride Month UK is a month-long celebration in July dedicated to honouring the achievements, culture, and contributions of disabled individuals in the United Kingdom. It aims to raise awareness, promote inclusivity, and foster a sense of unity within the disabled community and beyond.

To mark the occasion, we’re inviting you to join our local studies librarian, Mary Burgess, for a trip through the history of disability in Cambridgeshire. From community groups to activism to famous disabled people from Cambridgeshire, disabled people have always been around. This event will take place online via Microsoft Teams. Book your free ticket on Eventbrite: Online Talk: Disability History in Cambs Tickets, Wed, Jul 17th, 7pm | Eventbrite.

Spread the Word: eMagazines

A woman speaking into a megaphone

As a library member you belong to a community with sharing at its heart. Our “Spread the Word” campaign invites you to help us get the word out about the great resources libraries offer, so that even more people can enjoy them.

Magazine subscriptions are a hefty cost these days. Who do you know who loves magazines and would love to read them for free?

Please spread the word that library members have free access to a huge range of eMagazines, in a variety of languages. These include popular titles like New Scientist, Radio Times, HELLO!, The Economist and lots of health, craft and special interest magazines. Download the Libby/Overdrive and PressReader apps and use your library membership number to start enjoying eMagazines straightaway. If you have questions, library staff will be happy to help.

Join a Reading Group

Open book with pages curled to form a heart. Flowers placed on one of the pages.

Are you looking to make new friends who share your love of reading?

Many libraries have reading groups you can join, or staff could help you start a new group. Find out more on our Reading Groups webpage.

A Linton reading group member says: “The best thing about the group is that it has given me books to read that I never would have chosen myself. It’s wonderful to be able to discuss a book with others...I never cease to be amazed at how we all have different views on the same book.”

Reading groups can become friendly support networks. A new group, Midlife360 Book Club, has just started at Cambridge Central Library. Created by and for women in midlife, it meets on the 3rd floor on the 1st Wednesday of the month, 10:30am-12:00. Contact hello@midlife360.co.uk for more details.
