We now have 65 First Steps Library Club (FSLC) members across East Cambridgeshire & Fenland who are busy borrowing and collecting their First Steps Library Club Gifts. Our first monthly Prize Draw winner has been announced and they will be collecting their £50 High Street Voucher from Ely Library very soon.

Club members in Wisbech enjoyed our first special FSLC Library Event in Wisbech Library on 28th April when they were given exclusive access to the library and joined in with a ‘live’, though socially distanced, Story & Rhyme Time. March and Ely Library are due to hold their events on 5th May, and we plan to hold further events over the next couple of months.

Dementia Action Week

Dementia Action Week banner

Dementia Action Week is a national event led by Alzheimer’s Society and will take place this year on 17th - 23rd May. This annual event aims to bring the public together in raising awareness and taking actions to improve the lives of people affected by dementia. To find out campaign messages and how to take part, please visit the DAW2021 website

Dementia is caused by physical illness, such as Alzheimer’s disease, which damages the nerve cells in the brain and the connections between them. It is not a natural part of ageing and it is not about being forgetful. Learn the 5 things we should all know about dementia by clicking here.

Research shows a healthy heart helps with the healthy function of the brain. This article on the Age UK website explains how heart and brain health are connected. To reduce your risk of dementia, download the booklet and follow the advice from this Alzheimer’s Society webpage

You might also like to join the activities hosted by Age UK during the Dementia Action Week. You will learn new things which help to prevent or hold back cognitive decline. Information is on the Age UK website.
