Play in the Park 2026 – Spring Series

Play in the park

Approximately 916 children, young people, families and providers attended the Family Play in the Park events during the Easter holidays across the county borough. Thank you to all team members who supported the planning, promotion and delivery of these events.

Families shared that they were delighted to return to their local green spaces for a free, fun and inclusive experience. The Early Years & Childcare Service once again worked in partnership with the Play Service, enabling the provision of over 550 free healthy packed lunches for children attending events in Bargoed, Senghennydd and Crosskeys.

We now look forward to celebrating five years of Family Play in the Park, alongside National Play Day, during the upcoming summer holidays. Watch this space for further details!

Early Years Support Services Coming Together – CAN DWR

Can Dwr

From 29 April, two early years services supporting children with additional needs — Child Development Advisors and Children’s Centre Psychology — have officially come together as one service:

CAN DWR (pronounced Can dur) Children with Additional Needs – Development, Wellbeing and Relationships Service

This change reflects how the teams have already been working closely together to support children and families.

Access to the service has not changed:

  • For families, there is no change to the support they receive. Children and parents will continue to work with the same trusted professionals in the same caring and supportive way. By bringing the teams together, support can be better coordinated and offered earlier, helping families feel supported, understood and well cared for throughout their early years journey.
  • For professionals, referral routes remain the same via ISCAN or Children’s Centre consultations. Further information about CAN DWR is available on their Padlet, which reflects the new service arrangement: https://padlet.com/childrens_centre_psychology/children-s-centre-psychology-pooqouug2u8kbr17

Spotlight: Launch of the Gwent Neurodiversity Website

NeuroDiversity

The ABUHB CAMHS Neurodiversity Early Support Hub (NESH) has launched the Gwent Neurodiversity Website. 🔗 www.neurodiversitygwent.wales

The website provides a single, accessible source of trusted information for families and professionals across Gwent. It includes clear guidance on neurodiverse needs, local support pathways, resources to promote early help and inclusive practice, and signposting to services, training and community support, alongside videos and podcasts.

Childcare providers are encouraged to explore the site and share it with families and staff.
