Ysgol Cwm Gwyddon opens its doors

Excited pupils and staff from Ysgol Gymraeg Cwm Gwyddon arrived at their new school this morning in Cwmcarn, as the state-of-the-art facility officially opened its doors for the first time.

The impressive build is located on the site of the former Cwmcarn Comprehensive School and has been funded jointly by Caerphilly Council and Welsh Government through the Sustainable Communities for Learning Programme, which forms part of the Council’s wider Place Shaping Strategy.

The new building was constructed by Andrew Scott Ltd and has been designed to accommodate the Welsh medium primary school which has dramatically increased in numbers over the years and continues to grow. The spacious school site boasts modern and light teaching spaces and extensive outdoor learning and play space which is a stark contrast from the former site, in addition to new facilities for childcare and special resource base

A blueprint for service improvement

Caerphilly County Borough Council has unveiled its five key priority areas for the next 5 years in a major new strategy which provides a blueprint for the way the council delivers services in future.

A draft document, called the Corporate Plan 2023 - 2028, has been published. 

Our Corporate Plan sets out our direction, priorities and objectives for the next 5 years and the new Well‐being Objectives help us shape services, target resources and prioritise our efforts.”


Pontllanfraith Leisure Centre update

A report about the future of Pontllanfraith Leisure Centre will be considered by the council’s Cabinet, recommending that a consultation takes place on the permanent closure of the facility.

The Leader of Council met community representatives recently to explain the reasons for the proposal and to highlight the significant investment that has been made (with further planned) over recent years to deliver modern, fit for purpose sports facilities across the county borough


Newbridge Town Centre launches public free Wi-Fi

Newbridge Town Centre

Newbridge Town Centre has become the latest town to benefit from free public access Wi-Fi.

Newbridge is part of a wider provision that has already been rolled out in Bargoed, Blackwood, Rhymney, Risca and Ystrad Mynach. The initiative aims to improve the experience for visitors of the high street by helping people to access online stores and to engage with local businesses online.


Caerphilly County Borough Council announce free caddy liners trial

Caerphilly County Borough Council has announced a new 12-month trial to provide all residents with free indoor food waste caddy liners.

The 12-month trial is set to start in December 2023 and will see the first 6-month supply of liners delivered directly to resident’s doors, with the following 6-month supply being available for collection from local libraries, leisure centres, Bedwas Council Chambers, Ty Penallta and Penallta Reuse Shop.

Caerphilly County Borough Council signed the Armed Forces Covenant on Thursday 2nd November solidifying its commitment to the armed forces community.

The Armed Forces Covenant is a promise from the nation that those who serve or have served in the armed forces are treated fairly. The Covenant is a voluntary pledge to support the welfare, employment and education of the armed forces community and their families.
