In all Childcare, Play and Early Years Provisions there is a need to ensure anti-racist actions to safeguard wellbeing for all.
DARPL are an organisation whose work centres on professional learning for those working in Educational, Childcare, Play and Early Years settings to develop delegates’ understanding of anti-racism, which should lead to a development of anti-racist practice.
The professional learning has been developed to take into consideration the different roles of those working in settings and is tailored to support that.
For resources and information they have a designated Childcare, Play and Early Years page: Childcare, Play and Early Years - DARPL
And upcoming courses can be found on Eventbrite.

We've had a few issues with the training booking process which we need your help with.
When you are booking training online, please remember the following:
- When completing the training booking form, please can you make sure that you provide an individual email address for each member of staff you are requesting a place for and that you take care that this is entered correctly. The booking process relies heavily on email, and we have several issues lately where incorrect email addresses have been provided. This means the notifications, training information and links related to the training are not getting to them on time.
- If we decline a place on a training course, and you do not receive an email confirming you are on the waiting list, you will need to apply again when more courses are released. This is usually at the beginning and mid-term. Unfortunately, we cannot hold reserve lists.
Many thanks for your support.

The Childcare Offer National Digital System went live in January 2023.
The digital service has now fully replaced all previous application systems and every local authority, parent and childcare provider are using one single online service.
If you are providing Childcare Offer places, you are hopefully now getting familiar with the online system and the things you need to do as a provider.
If you need help with anything, you might first want to check whether your question is answered in the guidance for providers of the Childcare Offer for Wales.
If you need more help, you can contact the Early Years Hub on 01443 863232.

As part of the Early Childhood Play, Learning and Care (ECPLC) approach for 0-5 year olds in Wales, a new suite of resources has been published by Welsh Government to support practitioners in childcare and play settings and schools in providing quality early childhood play, learning and care. ECPLC is the new name for work previously known as ECEC in Wales.
The early years play a significant role in childhood as well as in shaping our futures. To ensure that all children aged 0 to 5 years have the best possible start in life, the Welsh Government have decided to place children’s well-being and development at the heart of early childhood play, learning and care in Wales.
These resources have been developed through co-construction by practitioners, for practitioners. It is expressed from the viewpoint of the practitioner, drawing on expertise from across the 0 to 5 early childhood play, learning and care sector.
The resources include:
- A Quality Framework for Early Childhood Play, Learning and Care in Wales.
- Early Childhood Play, Learning and Care in Wales: A Reflective Practice Toolkit
- Early Childhood Play, Learning and Care: Developmental Pathways for 0-3

These documents are to be read in conjunction with/alongside:
If you have any questions, feedback or comments, please feel free to email the talkchildcare mailbox and/or the foundation learning mailbox.
This is a really important question! When we want to help our child learn to talk, do we need to take the lead?
The Speech Lab have done an experiment looking at the difference in how our children respond when we lead, vs when we follow, watch it here: What's the best way to play with baby toys? Best way to play with 12 to 18 month old - BBC Tiny Happy People
The answer is….make sure you FOLLOW your child’s lead! When we notice what our child is interested in and follow this by joining in, playing and chatting, they are much more engaged. This means that they stay for longer and have more chances to hear the words you are saying and try to communicate with you.

- We say a fond farewell and happy retirement to Glynis Huish. Glynis has worked across the childcare sector in the Caerphilly county borough for over 25 years, first with Mudiad Meithrin, then as a Network Coordinator with the National Childminding Association (now PACEY) and for the past 11 years as our Childminding guru in the Early Years Team. Glynis has been instrumental in ensuring childminders are at the forefront of childcare delivery across the county borough and her knowledge and expertise will be greatly missed by all who have worked with her. Many of you will know Glynis well and want to join us in wishing her a long and happy retirement.

We have also said farewell to Sue Jones who retiring from the Early Years Hub Team on 30th June! The amount of knowledge, support and advice Sue has given to families and professionals over these years has been invaluable. We would like to wish Sue a happy and relaxed retirement.
