Coronation Theme Day Fun!
A Coronation Theme Day was popular at some Primary Schools. Lots of schools held parties, picnics and ceremonies and a themed menu was provided for those who wanted to celebrate at lunch time. Catering staff decorated the serving areas and joined in the fun!
It was great to see the school catering teams joining in the fun at breakfast clubs too to celebrate the coronation of King Charles III.

Healthy Eating Week Menu
The following themed menu will be offered in all Primary Schools from week commencing 12th of June.
Theme days are an exciting way for children to sample a variety of different foods. Additional choice will be offered.
It is a known fact that children eat with their eyes. What better way to highlight healthy, nutritional food than putting on a spread of colourful, tasty delights to keep your children on the go all day long! This is an annual celebration put on by the British Nutrition Foundation, to encourage the nation to eat and drink healthier.
Menu options:
Chicken Strip Wrap / Chickpea and Mixed Veg Tagine
Peas / Carrots / Salad Bar
Herby Lemon Couscous / Diced Potato Bites
Fruit and UBE Ice Cream / Fresh Fruit Pot / Yoghurt
Please note- The Theme Day menu will contain allergens. This menu will replace the standard menu on for the day and additional items of a filled jacket potato or pasta and sauce will be made available. Garlic Mayonnaise and Sweet Chilli Sauce are optional with each meal on request.
UBE Ice Cream to be Introduced into Schools
What better way to promote healthy eating than giving pupils an option of trying a vegetable based dessert originated from another country. The bright purple colour of Ube alone is enticing but the flavour is delicious!
The below fact sheet about Ube gives you a bit of insight into the vegetable itself, and where it originates from.
Continued Cooking Champion Scheme Allows More People to Grow Confidence in Cooking
Following a previously successful Cooking Championship that took place in September last year, another group of individuals were given the chance to grow confidence in their cooking ability through seven weeks of cooking classes.
Throughout the completion of the Cooking Champion, all participants grew more confidence than ever in preparing and cooking foods on a greater level. Some of those involved even wanted to go on and complete further food-based qualifications when the classes ended, highlighting how vital the learning hubs are within Caerphilly.
The Community Cooking Champion was launched in September 2022, as part of the Caerphilly Cares programme to help tackle food poverty and insecurity.
