Caerphilly considers steps towards a greener future

Caerphilly Council is exploring ways to boost recycling rates and create a greener county borough for all as part of an ambitious waste and recycling strategy for the future.

Local authorities are required to meet strict Welsh Government recycling targets and Caerphilly is working hard to ensure it reaches the current target of 70%, as well as even higher rates announced for the coming years.

​Free School Meals Vouchers – Easter

Parents of children eligible for Free School Meals will receive a free school meal holiday payment to cover the Easter holiday period.

A total payment of £39 per child will cover the Easter holiday period from 3rd April 2023 to 14 April 2023. If your child was not able to attend school due to the recent industrial action taken on 01/02/23 and 02/03/23 by teachers a payment for each day of £3.90 has been included.

Payments will be received no later than 14th April 2023


Excellent turn out for Ystrad Mynach Spring Fair

Ystrad Mynach Spring Fair

Saturday, the 25th of March, saw Ystrad Town Centre transform for the second Spring Fair of 2023.

The town centre welcomed an outstanding 8,247 visitors with 1,302 being the peak attendance at 1pm. There were 6,511 more visitors in town compared to the previous Saturday, making it the busiest day of the year so far. This year’s Spring Fair also beat the footfall of 2022’s Spring event.


​Cabinet to consider A469 funding boost

Almost £1million funding is set to be made available to progress long-awaited highway improvements on the A469 between Pontlottyn and New Tredegar.

The road, at Troedrhiwfuwch, has been impacted by significant ground movement following an initial landslip back in 2014. Single lane traffic restrictions have been in place since 2020, causing disruption and inconvenience to the local community.


Blackwood’s Maxime Cinema supported by CCBC’s Caerphilly Enterprise Fund

Maxime Cinema is the independent movie theatre located on Blackwood High Street that has been in operation since 2007.

The cinema caters for all age demographics with an excellent variety of food and beverages available, including a licenced bar, making it a great setting for entertainment of the whole community. It is also a large employer for the area employing over 10 full time staff and 12 part time staff.


Caerphilly County Borough Council visits new Garden Village in Pontllanfraith

Cllr Shayne Cook, Cabinet Member for Housing was joined by Leader of Council, Cllr Sean Morgan and local ward Councillors, Colin Gordon, Mike Adams, Pat Cook and other members of Caerphilly County Borough Council in touring the Chartist Garden Village development in Pontllanfraith, with leading developer Lovell and its partner Pobl Group.

Chartist Garden Village is a design and build scheme being delivered by Lovell on the former council office site, consisting of 123 properties, including 40 one, two, three and four-bedroom homes for open market sale, 40 affordable shared ownership homes and 43 affordable homes for rent.


Council Leader welcomed at train simulator ahead of new train launch

Caerphilly Council Leader, Cllr Sean Morgan recently visited Transport for Wales’ (TFW’s) train simulator in Cardiff.

The visit comes days before the official launch of brand-new South Wales Metro Trains on the Rhymney Valley lines.

This year Caerphilly County Borough Council’s Countryside and Landscape Service, in conjunction with Aneurin Bevan University Health Board, Caerphilly Adventure Group, Caerphilly Ramblers, Islwyn Ramblers and other partners, are once again throwing down a SERIOUS challenge for walkers and runners of all abilities.
