In February 2021, Storm Eunice may have bruised and battered Deri Library but it didn't make a dent in our resolve to reopen our much-missed service. We can exclusively reveal that Deri Library at our Bailey Street premises will be reopening! We don't have an exact timeline as yet, but if you live in Deri we do need your help.....
We have a fantastic opportunity to reconfigure and re-imagine the library space. Your input can help us co-design and highlight the services and support you feel you and your community need.
How do I do this? Copies of a very short survey called Community Voice will soon be available in the village community settings. Simply complete and return the form to the Library (currently based at Deri Community Centre) or the representative collecting these on our behalf.
We can't promise we can take forward all your ideas, but your views and suggestions are important to us and will be looked at.

The Library has now temporarily closed to the public.
The refurbishment and modernisation of Rhymney Library is progressing well and moving at pace.
The closure will last until the summer months whilst the refurbishment continues on the Ground Floor.
We'll provide regular updates in future editions of Expand Your Shelf.
We know some of you will miss our service but there's no need to stop reading whilst the library is closed! You can visit a neighboring library or use the Order and Collect service: Caerphilly - Caerphilly County Borough
If you need free WIFI, public computer access or book stock, you can use the nearest libraries at Bargoed, Aberbargoed and New Tredegar Library (based in the White Rose Information Centre).
What will the new Library Community Hub offer?
- Reconfigure and refurbish both floors at Rhymney Library.
- Create a new modern lending library for adults and children.
- Expand our Welsh language and Welsh culture offer.
- Create a new Laptop Lounge space and comfortable seating areas.
- Offer a hot drinks facility.
- Offer study, community and private meeting spaces.
- Spaces for you to meet partner organisations including officers from CCBC Council.
For further information please contact Bargoed Library on 01685 864714 or email: librhym@caerphilly.gov.uk or libbarg@caerphilly.gov.uk.

Coming soon to a library near you are your new membership cards.
Don't worry, you can continue to use your current Smartcard at CCBC libraries and leisure centres until you transition over.
Therefore at one of your future library visits you'll be asked by staff to check the membership details we hold for you on our library system, and when this is done you'll be handed a new card.
Congratulations to Lennon, aged 9 with his winning children's card design.
We can't wait to start handing these out to old and new customers!

Nora Roberts is one of the world's best-selling romance and crime writers of all time with hundreds of books to her name. This busy writer wrote her fifty-seven In Death crime stories under the name J.D. Robb and her fifty-five, yes, fifty-five romance books under the name Nora Roberts. Often writing two books per year we wonder where she gets her ideas?

If there's a new book that piques your interest or a favourite author you simply can't ignore - did you know you can reserve books and add your name to the reservation list for a particular title? (even before we've received the book).
To place a reservation use the Online Catalogue or simply pop into your local library. You will need your library card to reserve books. Enjoy.

Reading Well for Teens suggest recommended reading and digital resources to help you understand your feelings and boost your confidence.
Teens and health and well-being experts have chosen the books to help you manage your emotions and cope with difficult times.
The booklist is targeted at teenagers aged 13-18 and includes a range of reading levels and formats to support less confident readers and encourage engagement.
Look out for these books and leaflets in your local library. They're free to borrow and if they're not readily available at your local library we will request a copy from another borough library for you. They can be loaned for the normal 3 week period or longer on request.
Click the Read More button to download a bilingual leaflet explaining the scheme.

Introducing Claire, Community Librarian for Caerphilly, Llanbradach and Abertridwr Libraries.
Professional librarian, children's entertainer and educator.....Claire is a jack of all trades.
There is no such thing as a 'typical day' for Claire - one day she can be found singing rhymes with babies, followed by a library talk to local schoolchildren and helping them choose books or forging partnerships with local organisations and community groups.
On another day, Claire can be found filling in reports, writing Risk Assessments, updating the Library Service Improvement Plan... all before rounding the day off with a talk to a local community group.
One of the faces of our online lockdown story-time sessions, Claire was your little taste of libraries during those stay at home days. Keep smiling and singing Claire.

We're not just about books.......we're more, much more.....
Every year we collate and report customer stories to the Welsh Government showcasing how libraries in the Caerphilly borough have helped support a resident, or family or community groups. Here is one lovely example:
Health & Well-Being - Dementia Care: Our Dementia Memory Bags loaned to carers or customers living with dementia contain a number of items aimed to stimulate the senses and bring back happy memories. One customer told us,
'I have recently borrowed a Memory Bag from the library and I'm so impressed with the resources in the bag.
Every person living with dementia has specific difficulties and is at a particular stage in this relentless disease. The beach ball is perfect and promotes conversation and co-ordination.
At the same time, the CDs are from my mum's generation, clearly selected to spark memories. Music never fails to make mum smile. The postcards and Pictures to Share books bring back so many fond memories of holidays and happy times. The bags have clearly been assembled and created with knowledge, care, compassion and a total awareness of the challenge.'
Memory Bags are free to loan and are available at all library sites in the borough.
