The Childcare Offer for Wales national digital service is coming

This Autumn, the Childcare Offer for Wales is launching its new national digital service, making delivering the Offer even easier.

Registering for the new service

It’s important that all childcare providers delivering the Childcare Offer for Wales register onto the new service. This is because parents applying from November 2022 will do so through the national digital service, and payments for Childcare Offer hours provided for those children will only be made via the new service. More information is available here: Childcare Offer for Wales: National Digital Service | GOV.WALES

If you deliver Childcare Offer, will receive an email from childcareoffer@caerphilly.gov.uk week commencing 11 October inviting you to register. Please keep a look out for this!!

Live Event sessions on how to register with the new service as a childcare provider took place in September and a recording of this session is available to view below:

Welsh Government will be providing some further free training Live Events on the dates below. These sessions will be on how to confirm Childcare Offer agreements with parents and how to claim payments.

Provider- Parent Agreements - October 2022

Flu Vaccines

Flu

Just to make you all aware, all children aged 2 and 3 years were eligible from the 31st August 2022 for a free flu vaccination in the form of a LAIV nasal spray.

However, not all parents are aware of this or take up the offer.  Not only does the LAIV vaccine protect the children themselves, it also reduces the spread of infection helping protect family members, particularly elderly relatives, and others in the local community.

Therefore, improving vaccine uptake in children is important for individual protection, and also because of the indirect protection this offers to the rest of the population.

Children are ‘super spreaders’ of flu and the nasal spray vaccine in this age group has been highly effective. Increasing uptake in eligible children would have a significant impact on reducing transmission of flu across all groups in the community.

How you can help?

Childcare providers are in an ideal position to raise awareness of the importance of flu vaccination for children, with parents. Improving vaccine uptake in 2–3-year-old children is so important and we need your help.

Flu can be very serious for young children, and uptake of flu vaccine for two- and three-year-olds across Wales was considerably lower in 2021/22 than it was at 2020/21. Public Health Wales anticipate flu and COVID-19 circulating simultaneously this year, and this is a significant concern.

Maximising flu vaccine uptake in this group offers protection to the child, thereby decreasing the spread of flu this winter.

Please talk to the families you work with to make them aware if their child is eligible.

Covid19 reporting changes

Coronavirus

From Thursday 29 September 2022 you will no longer be required to report individual cases of COVID-19. As with other infectious diseases, you will only be required to report when an outbreak of COVID-19 has occurred. An outbreak is classified as two or more. As we transition through the pandemic recovery phase, we believe the time has come to return to normal reporting requirements.

Play Wales - Playful parenting workshop

PLay

Having the chance to play is an important part of a happy and healthy childhood for every child.

Parents and carers are important supporters of play for children – no matter how old they are.

Practitioners who have contact with parents, families and parents’ groups are in a good position to share information about play and to help guide them to the information that most meets their needs at that time.

Playful Childhoods, a Play Wales campaign, aims to help parents and carers give children time, space and support to play at home and in their community. This interactive and dynamic workshop will:

  • invite practitioners to share key issues for the parents they work with
  • explore the Playful Childhoods website and its range of helpful hints and top tips for parents.

The workshop is aimed at practitioners working directly with children and families. It is for colleagues working in Blaenau Gwent, Caerphilly, Monmouthshire, Newport and Torfaen.

Talk with me - Start talking to me before I am born

Talk with me

Did you know babies can hear sounds from 24 weeks of pregnancy? Talking to your bump helps your little one recognise your voice after they’re born. Why not try:

  • Talking and singing to your bump regularly, making sure to change the tone and beat of your talking.
  • Getting important family members or friends involved. They could talk to your bump in everyday activities or sing a bedtime lullaby.
  • Singing the same songs once your baby has arrived. They could recognise these and this might help them feel calm.
