Button batteries can kill – help us keep babies, toddlers and preschoolers safe

button battery

The Child Accident Prevention Trust (CAPT) and the British and Irish Portable Battery Association (BIPBA) are launching a joint awareness and information campaign on button cell safety, designed to provide expert information and guidance to parents and professionals working with children and families on how to handle button batteries safely.

In the last 10 months, two children have died after swallowing a button battery. Many more have suffered life-changing injuries.

Doctors are increasingly concerned. But far too many people simply don’t know, either about button battery dangers or the wide range of products powered by button batteries in our homes.

Visit the Child accident Prevention trust (PAPT) website for further information and free printable resources and downloads that can be used at your settings to raise awareness.

Gold Standard Healthy Snack Awards

Healthy Snack

Childcare practitioners and early years settings play an important role in contributing to the welfare of growing children. Snack times are an important opportunity for children to develop their communication skills, independence, and numeracy.

The Gold Standard Healthy Snack Award recognises and celebrates a quality snack provision within settings.

We are delighted to announce that since the new Gold Standard Healthy Snack Award was launched in July 2021, 31 childcare settings in the Caerphilly county borough have successfully met the criteria and achieved the award.

It’s never too early to use more than one language with your little one. From birth, children can learn more than one language. The most important things are to:

  • Use the language you are most comfortable with
  • Use languages in a way that feels natural for you
  • Give lots of opportunities to hear each language
  • Have fun learning together

FREE Training: Access a free online short course to learn about children’s speech, language and communication development, how to support these skills in setting and how to spot children who might be struggling to develop these important skills. National Minimum Standards – changes to qualification requirements reminder

Reminder

In January last year, Welsh Government issued a letter reminding people of the qualification requirements for staff working in all registered daycare settings, including open access play work and out of school childcare settings.

The letter also advised of Welsh Government’s decision to extend the deadline for achieving a required qualification by 12 months to 30 September 2022.

This letter is a reminder of the approaching deadline (30 September 2022) and the support that remains in place to help achieve this.

Thank you

Thank you

As we come to the end of another academic year, the Caerphilly Early Years and Childcare Service would like to recognise and say thank you all for your continued commitment and support in providing a quality childcare service to the families of the Caerphilly county borough. Once again, this year has been challenging at times, but I think you would all agree it has still proved incredibly rewarding!

If you are term time only, we hope you have a well-deserved relaxing summer break and for the rest who continue to offer childcare over the summer, we hope that you will be enjoying some well deserved time off that is both sunny and bright!
