The Caerphilly Family Information Service (FIS) is improving the way families can find out about childcare services.
Information about your service is already stored on our Family Information Service database. Families can either call our FIS helpline for information or search themselves on our Family Information Service website. We are working to improve this website to make it easier for families to use and will share this with you at a later date.
We have an exciting opportunity to further promote your service on another platform called Dewis Cymru. Dewis Cymru is a national website that contains information about over 6000 local and national services throughout Wales and is widely promoted as the one-stop-shop for families to access information about organisations and services.
Currently, Caerphilly is the only local authority is Wales not providing information about childcare services on Dewis Cymru and we want to put this right. We are aiming to unload all childcare provider details that we currently hold on the FIS database onto the portal by the end of August.
Benefits include:
- Free service
- Childcare provider information promoted at a national level
- Consistency with other local authorities in Wales who are already providing information on Dewis Cymru
- Supports cross border searching to help families who are looking for services in other neighbouring authority areas.
Here is a link to the website so you can take a look - https://www.fis.wales/ There are also some Frequently Asked Questions about Dewis Cymru if you want to find out more.
We have updated the Family Information Service Provider privacy notice to reflect this change. Click here to view the privacy notice.
If you have any questions about this change or would like any more information, please get in touch with us by email at fis@caerphilly.gov.uk.
Early Years Workforce Audit 2021
Please could you take a few minutes to complete our Early Years Workforce Audit Survey.
We are undertaking this survey to establish the qualifications and skills set of the current childcare and play workforce across Caerphilly county borough and to identify the qualification and training needs of the workforce for the next 2 years.
The information collected will be used to report to Welsh Government and to plan the courses and qualifications needed within the borough for the next two years. No personal details will be collected.
This survey should be completed by each individual who works in a Childcare and/or a Play setting (including childminders). It can be completed by the Leader in your setting on behalf of all the staff.

Please be aware that there have been three burglaries at childcare settings over the last few weeks. Valuable items were stolen, including a mobile phone containing parent and child details. Please be extra vigilant and take some time to read through this crime prevention advice provided by Gwent Police.
