Re-opening of the hospitality and tourism industry

TThe First Minister Mark Drakeford recently announced that outside bars and tourist attractions can begin to re-open from the 13th of July.

We have a whole host of businesses in Caerphilly which will be affected by the announcement and they are able to open their outdoor areas provided they are able to operate social distancing.

Schools set for September return

Education Minister Kirsty Williams has confirmed that the autumn term will start on September 1st and schools should now prepare for the return of all pupils.

It is anticipated that schools may want to focus on priority year groups in the first week or two, such as those starting secondary schools, those sitting exams next summer or those in reception classes.


Green light for flagship Pontllanfraith housing development

Planning permission has been granted, subject to approval by Welsh Ministers, for a flagship housing development in Pontllanfraith; bringing much needed affordable homes to the area in the future.

Approval for the Chartist Garden Village development was given during a remote meeting of Caerphilly County Borough Council’s Planning Committee. Councillors were assured that the development would not encroach onto the Harold Finch Memorial Park, which is located adjacent to the site, or the protected nature reserve and Site of Special Scientific Interest (SSSI).


Marriage and civil partnerships resume

Following recent changes in regulations, civil marriages and civil partnerships have resumed at Caerphilly County Borough Council’s Register Office and Penallta House building. 

Ceremonies resumed on 1st July for those couples who had already given notice and booked a date prior to the postponement as a result of the Covid-19 outbreak.


Trecenydd Footbridge – refurbishment works

As part of CCBC’s ongoing asset maintenance programme, Trecyndd Footbridge will be undergoing refurbishment works comprising repainting the superstructure, addressing drainage issues, installation of a new anti-slip system and addressing corrosion.


A467 roundabout resurfacing – overnight closures for 3 weeks from 14 July

All four roundabouts on A467 and the junction to Crosskeys are being resurfaced in a three week rolling programme of overnight closures commencing on Tuesday 14th July.

Caerphilly has made a significant investment into Ystrad Mynach Primary School providing a two-storey extension and a school staff parking area adjacent to the school.

Advice for the re-opening of pubs, bars, cafes and restaurants from Monday 13th July 2020.

Pubs, Bars, Cafes and Restaurants with Premises Licences, with their own outdoor areas will be permitted to open from Monday 13th July 2020 in order to provide the sale of alcohol in seated outdoor areas only.
