International Women's Day

balloons on purple background

International Women's Day has been around for over a hundred years, as have many of the issues still impacting women's advancement.

Since 1911, International Women's Day belongs to all who care about gender equality. So, on 8th March, celebrate women's achievement, raise awareness about discrimination and take action to forge gender parity.

When women themselves are inspired to be included, there's a sense of belonging, relevance and empowerment.

Debt Awareness Week

Person sad looking at document

From 16 to 22 March, Debt Awareness Week 2026 will explore shame and stigma surrounding debt.

We want to help people feel comfortable asking for the help they need, and ease any worries they may have about being judged, or feeling ashamed or embarrassed.

The fact is, anyone can fall into debt - and for all kinds of reasons. This means, even if your money worries leave you feeling lonely, you're not alone.

Did you know Housing tenants have the opportunity to chat to one of our Financial Inclusion Officers?

Our Officers can help support you in many ways from help with Benefits, debts and budgeting issues.

They also help tenants understand the importance of priority debts.

Priority Debts

Rent arrears and Council Tax payments are the foremost ‘Priority Debt’. Therefore tenants have to prioritise these payments over other creditors they have and they must take action to organise their finances accordingly. This includes renegotiating payments elsewhere to free up money to pay to their rent account first.

Our Financial Inclusion Officers can give general advice and signposting in this area.  However, if the tenant’s debt is complex they can receive specialist and accredited debt advice from Citizen's Advice Broxtowe or Stepchange

Where are Housing this March?

Meeting in Council Chambers

Broxtowe Youth Conference

Thanks to everyone who came to speak to us at the Youth Conference in February. It was really inspirational to see young people coming together to discuss issues relevant to their generation and being the change they want to see.

They chose The Content Collective as the name for our new editorial panel. They also explained that the best ways to engage young people was with food and online, so we will try to combine those two elements!

Housing Influence Panel

On Wednesday 11 March we held the Housing Influence Panel.

The Panel received the Income Collection Policy, Rent Setting Policy and Financial Inclusion Policy, as well as looking at developing a Code of Conduct for Contractors.

If you are a Broxtowe Borough Council tenant, leaseholder or shared owner, and would like to come along to future meetings please do! Call 0115 917 3935 or email housingengagement@broxtowe.gov.uk for more information.

Housing Influence Panel

Scrutiny Project

Join us on Tuesday 24 March, 9am–4pm, for a special one‑day Scrutiny Review on the council housing tenancy sign‑up process. This is your chance to share your real experiences, highlight what works, and help shape improvements that make signing up for a council tenancy clearer, fairer, and more supportive for future residents. Your voice matters, and this review is designed to give tenants genuine influence over how services are delivered.

All attendees will enjoy a free lunch, a friendly and welcoming atmosphere, and the opportunity to collaborate with other tenants and staff to create meaningful change. We can also cover transport costs, so taking part is easy and accessible. If you want to make a difference and help improve the tenancy journey for others, this is the perfect opportunity—your insight could help shape the future of housing services
