Keep Communal Areas Clear
In communal areas, we have a legal responsibility to make sure you and your neighbours are safe from key hazards, including fire.
This relates to areas such as stairways and landings and includes bicycles, doormats, prams, pushchairs, plants, old furniture and any other items. Mobility scooters in particular have a poor safety record and have been the cause of many serious fires.
If you place any items in a communal area you will be asked to remove them for resident safety and to safeguard against the threat of fire spreading.

Complaints Panel Updates
Last month tenants and leaseholders at our Complaints Panel reviewed a selection of Lettings complaints.
We shared some data about the complaints that we received in comparison to other councils in Nottingham to help benchmark our performance.
We are also excited to share that we have recruited a Housing Complaints Officer to help with the management of complaints and ensure improvements to the service are implemented and effective.
Following the meeting, the panel requested explanations be provided when complaint response timeframes are extended and a breakdown of complaints received into upheld and not upheld.
It was great to see new attendees. If you are interested in joining the quarterly Complaints Panel meetings email housingengagement@broxtowe.gov.uk to help us improve our complaints process.

Energy Workshops in Independent Living
Nottingham Energy Partnership have held several energy saving workshops in our Independent Living schemes.
These have helped tenants shown how to use their smart meters and also provided them with energy saving tips. The workshops have been really successful so far and the tenants have found them very informative and useful. There are more workshops being rolled out at more schemes over the summer, and we are looking at venues to hold workshops for General Needs tenants too.

Stop Social Housing Stigma
The Stop Social Housing Stigma campaign have launched a national tenant survey to find out what social housing tenants think about stigma and what is being done to address it.
Tenants sometimes feel that they are treated as second class citizens by their landlords, by politicians and by the general public. So, 8 years after the Grenfell Tower tragedy, they want to know if tenants still feel the same.
Have the Government and landlords done enough yet to tackle social housing stigma? What would you like to see happening?
The survey will only take a few minutes to complete and is available at:

Domestic CCTV and Doorbell Cameras
A reminder to all tenants and leaseholders that you must ask for permission before installing CCTV/Doorbell Cameras.
Doorbell cameras are classed as domestic CCTV. If you have one, you are responsible for following the GDPR and privacy laws for anything you capture outside of your boundary (including neighbourhood properties, pavements and roads). We recommend you putting up a sign to inform anyone that comes onto your property that they are being filmed.
If permission is granted, you would be subject to these conditions:
- All cameras/equipment are installed at your own expense, and all subsequent maintenance costs will be your responsibility
- You may need to use a certified Electrician to install wired cameras
- The Council can request that you remove the items at any time, and failure to do so would be a breach of your tenancy agreement/lease.
If you have any questions or queries about CCTV or other recording devices, please visit the

We have received applications from local residents and community groups. If you know of anyone with an idea for small-scale projects that benefit the Council’s Housing customers and the communities they live within, mention our Fund.
