What Can Go In Your Brown-Lidded Garden Waste Bin?
Make sure that you put the correct items in your garden waste bin. If you do not, the team may reject your bin and you will have to remove the contaminants and request another collection online.
You can put the following in your garden waste bin:
- Leaves.
- Grass cuttings.
- Weeds.
- Twigs.
- Cut flowers and house plants.
- Hedge trimmings.
Please do not put these items in your garden waste bin:
- Soil.
- Fruit and vegetables (even if these are home-grown or wind fall fruit).
- General food waste.
- Animal bedding and waste.
- Plastic plant pots.
- Compostable packaging.
Remember that your brown-lidded garden waste bin is not a compost bin and should only contain garden waste.
What Happens To My Garden Waste?

After your team have collected your garden waste it is taken to Kimberley Depot to be transferred to Veolia's open air composting facility in Oxton.
If it is going to be turned into compost anyway, why can't I put food into the bin?
Open air facilities cannot compost food scraps and peelings because of regulations put in place to prevent the spread of diseases.
