Brinsley Headstock Restoration Project Reaches First Milestone!
Works have begun to create new ponds at Brinsley Headstocks site to benefit local wildlife and the nationally endangered water vole, as part of Broxtowe Borough Council’s restoration project.
Planting bulbs and trees on Crow Hill at Bramcote Hills Park
You may remember that earlier this year we were granted £3,000 in funding from the Severn Trent Water 'Boost for Biodiversity' scheme to create an acid-grassland habitat on Crow Hill at Bramcote Hills Park.
We're excited to have progressed this project with the help of local school, Foxwood Academy. The group set out in the morning on Tuesday 15 October with handfuls of plug plants to get into the ground and, by the afternoon, had planted several hundred! The team really got stuck in with trowels, showing us the skills they had been learning by working on their community garden.
On Saturday 19 October, volunteers from the local community followed this up by planting 30 native trees in the woodland and adding hundreds more plug plants to the grassland.
A few of the species that were planted in the grassland were Betony, Tufted Vetch, Ragged Robin, Oxeye Daisy and Meadow Buttercup which will help make a great start to the grassland.
Next year, everyone will be able to see the progress the plants have made following all their hard work.

Free Trees Giveaway Returns
The Green Rewards Free Tree Giveaway is back!
The Council recognises that not everybody has room for a tree, so this year the Free Trees offer will be a bit different...
Sign up to Green Rewards and you can register to have one of 300 UK grown apple or pear trees. Alternatively, for those that have less space, you have the option of an edible raspberry or loganberry soft fruit plant. We have 200 of these plants to give away! This will be on a first come first serve basis.
The plants and trees have been chosen as they benefit local wildlife, are great for pollinators and will also provide some delicious fruit.
The Free Trees programme is part of the Council’s Climate Change and Green Futures Strategy and is one of many initiatives that will help to tackle Climate Change.
Applications will open in the winter, so please sign up now to Green Rewards to be in with a chance of receiving one of these trees or plants.
Have your voice heard in Broxtowe’s Budget Consultation
Broxtowe Borough Council has launched its annual budget survey, asking local residents, businesses and community and voluntary organisations to share their thoughts on Council services and how they think the budget should be spent.
To have their say, local people can complete the online survey until 19 November 2024. There is also a chance to win one of six £50 Love2Shop vouchers for all participants who wish to enter a prize draw.
The survey asks for views on the wide range of services provided by the Council, including Parks and Nature Conservation, Waste and Recycling, Health, Leisure and more, as well as suggestions on how to increase income, reduce costs to help balance the budget.
