Gas Safety Week

Gas Safety Week

As your landlord, Broxtowe Borough Council has a legal obligation to ensure that gas appliances and pipe work in your home are checked for safety at least once every 12 months.

Our in-house Gas Safe Registered Engineers will carry out these vital checks to ensure they are safe for you and your family to use.

Test it Tuesday

Finger pressing smoke alarm

Test it Tuesday is to encourage everyone to take time to test not just our own smoke alarms, but the smoke alarms of family and friends as well.

Working smoke alarms as we all know save lives, but from time to time we all need a gentle reminder that we need to make sure they are in full working order.

Fires can start at any time and for many reasons. Having a working smoke alarm can make the difference between getting out safely or not at all.

Regular testing of your alarm will give you the peace of mind that should fire start, you will be given the warning you need to escape.

 Right to Repair

Engineer checking boiler

Under the Right to Repair Scheme the Council is
required to carry out certain repairs within a set time
period.

All repairs when logged are assigned a priority. Certain repairs, which fall under this scheme must be done within 1, 3 or 7 working days, depending on how urgent the problem is.

Example of urgent repairs are:

  • no running water

  • leaking water pipe

  • unsafe electrical wiring

  • no heating or hot water in the winter

Less urgent repairs could include an extractor fan or some taps not working.

First Complaints Panel Meeting

Tense business meeting

Housing recently launched a Complaints Panel for Tenants and Leaseholders to gain more involvement and understanding of the Council's complaints procedure.

By bringing your views and experience we hope to learn from complaints to improve our services and empower tenants and leaseholders.

At the meeting we explained the existing Council process, the Housing Ombudsman's Complaint Handling Code. We also provided examples of completed complaints that had already been through the process to encourage discussion around the Council's response and possible remedies.

If you are interested in being part of the Complaints Panel please contact the Engagement Team on 0115 917 3935 or email housingengagement@broxtowe.gov.uk

Home Contents Insurance

Laptop and notebook on desk

The Council insures the structure of your home, but not your home contents (the possessions you would take with you if you moved home).

Would you be in a position to replace your items if you were burgled, had a fire or you had a burst pipe?

Accidents can happen in the home, and dealing with the damage can cost a lot of money. The Council strongly advises tenants and leaseholders to take out Contents Insurance.

You can do this either through making your own private arrangements or by printing and completing the application form below. Once complete, the form needs to be returned to RSA – Uris Group directly using the details on the form.
