Cracking down on drug dealers and shop thieves are among the priorities that a new neighbourhood policing inspector has vowed to tackle head-on.

Inspector Usha Madaraa, who has served with Nottinghamshire Police for 19 years, is now getting to grips with her new role covering the Broxtowe district.

Stop Hate Crime logo

Report Hate Crime

Crimes committed against someone because of their disability, transgender-identity, race, religion or belief, or sexual orientation are hate crimes, and are unacceptable and should be reported to the police, or you can report hate crime online.

Hate crimes can include:

  • threatening behaviour
  • assault
  • robbery
  • damage to property
  • inciting others to commit hate crimes
  • harassment
  • online abuse

Report online material promoting terrorism or extremism

Prevent terrorism by reporting illegal or harmful information, pictures or videos you’ve found on the internet.

You can report things like:

  • articles, images, speeches or videos that promote terrorism or encourage violence
  • websites made by terrorist or extremist organisations
  • videos of terrorist attacks

You can make your report online -  Report online material promoting terrorism or extremism - GOV.UK (www.gov.uk) without leaving your name and contact details .

Report suspicious activity, if you’ve seen or heard something that could potentially be related to terrorism, trust your instincts and report it. Your actions could save lives. It only takes a moment to make a report. In an emergency, or if you need urgent police assistance, you should always dial 999. You can also report suspicious activity by contacting the police in confidence on 0800 789 321. Every year thousands of reports from the public help the police keep communities safe from terrorism.

The campaign is issuing a call to action ‘Start the Conversation’ encouraging individuals, communities, and organisations to engage in open and honest discussions.

Every conversation, no matter how small, contributes to a more supportive and understanding society. Nottingham and Nottinghamshire libraries will be promoting WSPD and WMHD by sharing communications, resources and their health and wellbeing book lists.

Beeston Library will be promoting World Suicide Prevention Day on 23 September with Nottinghamshire County Council Community Health and Wellbeing Champion and Nottinghamshire Talking Therapies to attend. For more information, please email suicide.prevention@nottscc.gov.uk.

Know Your Numbers Week!

You Have The Power

This year's theme is 'You Have the Power'. With the everyday pressures of life, we know that understanding why it’s important to know your blood pressure numbers and taking the time to get them measured isn’t always a priority. However, did you know that getting a blood pressure check is the first step to preventing heart attacks and strokes?
