Home Contents Insurance

Laptop and notebook on desk

The Council insures the structure of your home, but not your home contents (the possessions you would take with you if you moved home).

Would you be in a position to replace your items if you were burgled, had a fire or you had a burst pipe?

Accidents can happen in the home, and dealing with the damage can cost a lot of money. The Council strongly advises tenants and leaseholders to take out Contents Insurance.

While tenants are free to choose any insurance provider, the Council offers insurance with Royal and Sun Alliance

From as little as 42p a week for Standard Cover, you could insure up to £4,000 worth of items. £1.02 a week will insure up to £10,000. Additional items such as wheelchairs, hearing aids and bicycles can also be covered for an additional costs.

More information can be found on our website Your Home.

Citizen's Advice Broxtowe 'Day of Action'

Independent Living Service and Lifeline stall

On 5th March Citizen’s Advice Broxtowe held a 'Day of Action' focusing on pension credit which included the Council offices at Foster Avenue, Beeston. Housing also attended, sharing information on the Independent Living Service and Lifeline.

Every year millions of pounds go unclaimed in Pension Credits. This event focused on ensuring that pensioners who are entitled claim their entitlement.

Citizens Advice helped vulnerable energy consumers register with the Priority Service Register, Severn Trents Water's 'The Big Difference Scheme' as well as conducting 17 benefits assessments. In total they found £74,134.90 in annual and one off benefit gains for those who came to see them!

It’s great to raise awareness of unclaimed benefits and the help available to access them. In fact, Housing tenants have the opportunity to chat to one of our Financial Inclusion Officers. Our Officers can help support in many way including benefit checks, debts and budgeting issues. Take a look at the Financial Inclusion page for more information on the service.
