Awaab's Law Timeline Consultation

what will awaabs law be like for landlords

The Department for Levelling Up, Housing and Communities released its long-awaited consultation on Awaab’s Law on 9 January, 2024.

Awaab’s Law which was introduced in the Social Housing (Regulation) Act 2023, followed the death of two year-old boy Awaab Ishak in December 2020 as a direct result of a severe respiratory condition due to prolonged exposure to mould within his home.

It is proposed that Awaab’s Law will consider the 29 health and safety hazards set out by the Housing Health and Safety Rating System. The consultation proposes that Awaab’s Law will define hazards as those that pose a significant risk to the health or safety of the actual resident of the dwelling.

The deadline for responses to the consultation is Tuesday 5 March 2024.

If you find dampness within your home, the main causes may be condensation, rising damp, penetrating damp, plumbing faults or broken pipes.

Condensation can occur in any room of a property, in cupboards, corners of rooms, or behind furniture where air movement is restricted. Condensation will usually occur on a cold surface.

Download our handy guide to get tips on how to prevent condensation in your property, including how to:

  • Stop moist air spreading through your home
  • Ensure good ventilation
  • Provide reasonable heating

The also provides information relating to cause of damp within a property.

The Condensation and Dampness Guide also provides information relating to causes of damp within a property.

If you are experiencing damp and mould within your property, please let us know and send us some photos (if you can): email damp&mould@broxtowe.gov.uk or call or call 0115 917 7777 Option 2.

Debt Awareness Week

18 - 24 March

purple background with purple hand holding a coin

This year the campaign will look at the reasons people don't get debt advice, and how they can overcome those barriers.  We want to help people feel comfortable asking for the help they need, and ease any worries they may have about being judged, or feeling ashamed or embarrassed.

The fact is, anyone can fall into debt - and for all kinds of reasons. This means, even if your money worries leave you feeling lonely, you're not alone.

Say No to Domestic Abuse

Domestic abuse isn't just physical. It's about someone you know trying to control your life. This could be a partner, ex-partner, or someone in the family. It can be financial, psychological, emotional or sexual.

Can you spot the signs?

  • May be withdrawn
  • Tread on egg-shells especially around their partner
  • Constantly checking in with their partner
  • Explanations for injuries that don't add up

If you or someone you know is experiencing these signs please seek advice

Your commitment contributes to a global effort to combat the epidemic of domestic and sexual violence affecting 1 in 3 women and 1 in 6 men.

If you need to call a domestic abuse support service/helpline in private, you can use a #safespace in pharmacies and banks.

International Women’s Day 8 March 2024

international womens day poster

Imagine a gender equal world. A world free of bias, stereotypes, and discrimination. A world that's diverse, equitable, and inclusive. A world where difference is valued and celebrated.

Together, let's #InspireInclusion. When we collectively inspire others to understand and value women's inclusion, we forge a better world.

And when women themselves are inspired to be included, there's a sense of belonging, relevance and empowerment. International Women's Day belongs to everyone, everywhere.
