Make sure you're ready to vote next week

Remember, I need photo ID to vote

It’s less than a week to go until elections, so make sure you’re prepared for Thursday 4 May so you can have your say. You will need to show photo ID to receive your ballot paper at the local elections next week.

Accepted photo ID includes:

  • A UK, EEA, or Commonwealth passport (including an Irish Passport Card)
  • A UK or EEA photocard driving licence
  • A blue badge
  • A relevant concessionary travel card (e.g. Older Person’s Bus Pass)

A comprehensive list of accepted photographic identification is available on your poll card or on the Electoral Comission website.

We have provided the answers to some FAQs to help ensure you are ready to vote.

When are polling hours?

Polling hours are between 7am–10pm.

I haven’t received my postal ballot paper yet – what should I do?

If your postal ballot hasn’t arrived or you have lost it, you can get a replacement ballot paper in person from your local elections office up until 5pm on polling day. You will need identification.

What should I do if I need an emergency proxy on the grounds of voter ID?

You may vote by proxy on the grounds of voter ID if your photo ID has been lost, stolen, destroyed, is no longer useable or has been sent away to prove your identity and is unavailable for polling day.

If your appointed proxy will not be able to provide photo ID, you can apply to change your appointed proxy.

Applications for these instances must be received by 5pm on the day of poll.

Where can I find out the results?

Keep an eye on our website and our social media channels on Facebook and Twitter for the results on Friday 5 May.

NHS - Accessing pharmacies over the Bank Holiday

The long weekend can be one of the busiest times of the year as friends and family catch up and make the most of the four-day break.

If people feel unwell over the bank holiday weekend, they can check their symptoms and get access to advice using 111.nhs.uk online. NHS 111 is a free service which runs 24 hours a day, seven days a week.

Local community pharmacists can also provide free health advice to support you to self-care and no appointment is necessary. From coughs and colds to aches and pains, they can give expert help on everyday illnesses and answer questions about prescribed and over the counter medicines. Pharmacy opening times over the bank holiday period can be found on the NHS website.
