Debt Awareness Week

20th - 26th March

debt can happen to anyone

This year’s Debt Awareness Week will focus on the fact that debt can happen to anyone.

We want to help people feel comfortable asking for the help they need, and ease any worries they may have about being judged, or feeling ashamed or embarrassed.

The fact is, anyone can fall into debt - and for all kinds of reasons. This means, even if your money worries leave you feeling lonely, you're not alone.

Financial Inclusion out and about

Say No to Domestic Abuse

Domestic abuse isn't just physical. It's about someone you know trying to control your life. This could be a partner, ex-partner, or someone in the family. It can be financial, psychological, emotional or sexual.

Can you spot the signs?

  • May be withdrawn
  • Tread on egg-shells especially around their partner
  • Constantly checking in with their partner
  • Explanations for injuries that don't add up

If you or someone you know is experiencing these signs please seek advice.

no more week - March

NO MORE Week, 5th - 12th March

Come together to raise awareness of domestic abuse and sexual violence, inspiring individuals, organisations, and communities to make change.

1 in 5 adults aged 16 and over have experienced domestic abuse since the age of 16. If you need to call a domestic abuse support service/helpline in private, you can use a #safespace in pharmacies and banks.

Condensation and Damp

a guide to help with dampness and condensation

If you find dampness within your home, the main causes may be condensation, rising damp, penetrating damp, plumbing faults or broken pipes.

Condensation can occur in any room of a property, in cupboards, corners of rooms, or behind furniture where air movement is restricted.  Condensation will usually occur on a cold surface.

Download our handy guide to get tips on how to prevent condensation in your property, including how to:

  • Stop moist air spreading through your home
  • Ensure good ventilation
  • Provide reasonable heating

The guide also provides information relating to causes of damp within a property. Condensation and Dampness Guide

If you are experiencing damp and mould within your property, please let us know and send us some photos (if you can): email damp&mould@broxtowe.gov.uk or call 0115 917 7777 Option 2.

Have You Got Contents Insurance?

Insurance word on a key on the keyboard

As a tenant you may believe we automatically insure your furniture, belongings and decorations against fire, vandalism or water damage such as burst pipes but this is not the case.

We strongly advise you to take out household contents insurance. You can do this either through making your own private arrangements or by printing and completing the application form below. Once complete, the form needs to be returned to RSA – Uris Group directly using the details on the form.

Housing Jargon Buster: Lettings

jargon spelt out in tiles

Sometimes you may hear a few housing terms that you're not quite sure on. Each month we will share some terms that tenants have found confusing.

Here's a few of them in lettings:

Void: empty property waiting to be let.

Bid: The way to be considered for a certain home. Read the 'How to Bid' webpage for further information.

Cycle: the length of time you have to bid on a property. Our weekly advertising cycle starts on a Thursday and closes on a Tuesday.

Are there any more you've heard and want to know what it means? Send us an email at housingengagement@broxtowe.gov.uk
