Mayor of Broxtowe Plants Tree of Trees Honouring Queen Elizabeth's Memory
The Mayor of Broxtowe took part in a special Tree planting event with the Lord-Lieutenant of Nottinghamshire, accompanied by children from Foxwood Academy.
The tree was planted at Bramcote Hills Park (at the entrance to the Walled Garden) on Thursday 2 February. The Hazel tree is from the 21 metre ‘Tree of Trees’ sculpture designed by Thomas Heatherwick that featured as part of the Queen’s Platinum Jubilee celebrations. The tree was planted alongside 1000 bulbs which will bloom from late winter all the way through to summer.
Councillor Grindell said: “Today we are honouring Queen Elizabeth’s memory by caring for the environment and bringing the community together. It is a privilege to be involved in the Queen’s Green Canopy initiative. Hazel trees are historically associated with wisdom and authority, and is a fitting memorial to her Majesty.”

New Scheme Aims to Steer Young People Away from Crime
An exciting new initiative aims to keep young people on the right path and divert them away from crime by giving them a safe space where they can participate in a range of positive activities.
It’s the next phase of Operation Potassium, a high-visibility proactive policing operation launched in October which has resulted in reports of antisocial behaviour in the Beeston and Chilwell areas plummeting by almost a third (31 percent) since an August peak.
The successful operation involved having targeted patrols in hot-spot locations at key times to prevent problems from occurring, as well as the visible police presence helping officers to build up a rapport with young people as well as being on hand to offer advice.
Now Nottinghamshire Police is working closely with Broxtowe Borough Council to build on this success though a new pilot scheme dubbed ‘Operation Potassium Plus’.
