Free Trees are back for 2022
For 2022, we are offering 750 free fruit trees to Broxtowe residents and we have the following varieties to give away:
Applications will open in the autumn – look out for more information soon.
This year, we will also be asking that applicants sign up to our Green Rewards app to qualify.
Green Rewards is a free platform which can be accessed via app or desktop and whilst using it users accumulate points for recording sustainable actions such as reusing and recycling. These points can then be exchanged for vouchers and prizes and can also be put towards local community projects.
Don't miss out on the opportunity to win a free tree with Green Rewards - watch our video on how to sign up.
We are so close to hitting 1,000 Green Rewards subscribers and the 1000th subscriber will be awarded a £50 voucher to be spent at M&S, Love2Shop or National Garden Vouchers - so be quick!
The Free Trees programme is part of the Council’s Green Futures and Climate Change programme and is one of many initiatives that will help tackle Climate Change.
Trees are invaluable to our planet and the regulation of the ecosystem as they store carbon and release oxygen. For every tree that is planted, during its lifetime around 1 tonne of carbon will be absorbed – that’s equal to the weight of an adult male polar bear!

Stapleford Helpful Bureau, The Haven Church and Stapleford and Surrounding Areas Mutual Aid Group will be giving away pre-loved and brand new school uniforms at next week's Stapleford Market to get kids ready for the start of the new school year.
The Back to School Uniform Bank will be set up at Walter Parker Memorial Square between 8am and 2pm next Thursday, 25 August.
The uniforms are completely free of charge but voluntary donations are welcome!
Reminder to complete our Parks and Open Spaces survey
Have you had your say in our parks and open spaces survey? We currently have less than two weeks until the closing date to receive your thoughts on what can be improved in the borough's green spaces.
The more responses we receive, the more we can learn about how we can keep the maintenance, safety, facilities and protection of wildlife in our parks to the best standard.
We are still looking for more feedback on the following parks so please complete the survey on these green spaces if any are local to you:
- Redbridge Drive Park, Nuthall
- Flixton Road Open Space, Kimberley
- Jubilee Park, Eastwood
The survey is open until 31 August 2022 and only takes a few minutes to complete.

D.H. Lawrence Festival in September
The D.H. Lawrence Festival is coming once again to Eastwood for 2022! Held every year to coincide with the birth of accomplished (and often considered controversial) writer D.H. Lawrence in September 1885, Eastwood is once again hosting the festival for this year.
There will be a focus on two major themes alongside Lawrence - local mining heritage and respect for the local environment. The event runs from 2 September to 11 September.
