The sad passing of Councillor Edward Cubley

Councillor Edward Cubley

It is with deep sadness that we have received news that Councillor Edward Cubley has passed away.

The Leader of the Council, Councillor Milan Radulovic, MBE has shared:

'Eddie, as he was known, was a Councillor for Greasley and was highly respected and loved across all parties. He was well-known for his optimism and his engaging personality. Eddie was a passionate skydiver in his spare time and approached everything he did with great enthusiasm.

He will be sorely missed by his colleagues here at the Council and our colleagues at Nottinghamshire County Council. Our thoughts are with his family and friends at this difficult time.'

Green Flag Award Retained by Five of Broxtowe’s Open Spaces

Green flag award

Five Broxtowe open spaces are celebrating after it was announced they have retained their Green Flag awards.

The five parks that have been awarded are:

  • Bramcote Hills Park
  • Colliers Wood (Moorgreen)
  • Alexandrina Plantation (Bramcote)
  • Brinsley Headstocks
  • The Old Church Tower (Bramcote)

Bramcote Hills Park has been awarded a green flag every year since 2006 and Colliers Wood has had one every year since 2008. The Green Flag Awards recognise and reward the best parks and green spaces across the country. A Green Flag is a sign to the public that the space boasts very high standards, is well maintained and has good facilities.

You could be part of the team that works to make these awards happen. We’re currently recruiting for an Environmental Development Officer, find out more and apply online.

Amber weather warning updates

alert sign

Due to the amber weather warning being extended, we’ll be collecting bins an hour earlier on Monday 15 August, to help keep our Refuse Crews safe in the peak of the heat.

Please make sure your bin is out by 5.30am if you have a collection due on these days.

The earlier starts will help the teams to get more bins emptied in the morning before the temperatures peak later in the day and is in line with Health and Safety Executive (HSE) advice for outdoor working.

With the expected hot weather, it is good to prepare in order to protect yourself, your family and friends. Remember to:

  • Drink plenty of fluids
  • Keep out of the sun between 11am and 3pm
  • Use cool spaces if going outdoors
  • Avoid exercise during the hottest parts of the day
  • Check on vulnerable people

Don't lose your vote - residents in Broxtowe Borough urged to check voter registration details

electoral

Broxtowe Borough residents are being urged to check their electoral registration details or risk losing their chance to vote on decisions that affect them.

With elections taking place in Broxtowe in May 2023, this is an opportunity for residents to make sure they can take part.

The annual canvass allows Broxtowe Borough Council to keep the electoral register up to date, to identify who risks losing their voice at elections, and to encourage them to register before it’s too late.

Emails will be sent from Broxtowe Borough Council Electoral Services, if you need further support email our team at elections@broxtowe.gov.uk
