Bin Collections and Opening Hours for Jubilee Bank Holiday Weekend

During the Jubilee bank holiday weekend (taking place between 2 – 5 June), there will be no changes to bin collections. Your bin will be emptied on its normal collection day.

You can find out more by viewing your bin calendar online.

Our Beeston Office will be closed on Thursday 2 June and Friday 3 June - to find out more on the opening hours for the Council Offices and leisure facilities, please visit our Bank Holiday Opening Hours page.

Queen's Platinum Jubilee 2022

Are you ready for the events that are taking place next week over the extended Jubilee bank holiday weekend?

Here's a reminder of some of the exciting activities which are happening between 2-5 June:

2 June:

  • Beacon Lighting at Chapel on the Hill, Kimberley 
  • Pop-up Gin Palace at the D.H Lawrence Birthplace Museum (Booking essential)

3 June:

  • Kimberley Picnic in the Park, Stag Football Ground
  • Queen’s Jubilee Afternoon Tea at Awsworth Village Hall (Booking essential)

4 June:

  • The Hemlock Happening, Bramcote Hills Park

5 June:

  • Awsworth Picnic in the Park at The Lane Recreation Ground

Third Jubilee for Hemlock Happening

Gold, Diamond and now Platinum; The Hemlock Happening is back on the 4 June from 1pm-10.30pm as part of the celebrations taking place for the Queen’s Platinum Jubilee.

Originally organised to celebrate the Golden Jubilee in 2002, the event has become a popular annual celebration and this year marks its third Jubilee year.

Organised by L Leisure on behalf of Broxtowe Borough Council and The Bramcote & Stapleford Golden Jubilee Group, this free event will be a fun packed day of live music, dance, sport, crafts, stalls and family activities ending with a beacon lighting and Jubilee themed fireworks display at 10.30pm.

Councillor David Grindell, Mayor of Broxtowe has written a letter of congratulations to her Majesty the Queen for her Platinum Jubilee on behalf of Broxtowe.


Military To March Through Eastwood For Freedom Parade

Wednesday 22 June will mark an historic day in Eastwood, as soldiers and veterans from 170 (Infrastructure Support) Engineer Group march through the town centre to exercise their Freedom of the Borough and celebrate the Queen’s Platinum Jubilee.

The town will be dressed in red, white and blue bunting and residents and businesses are urged to take to the streets to cheer on its Army heroes as they march through the town at 1.30pm.

Learn to live a ‘greener’ life at Colliers Wood Green Festival

Broxtowe residents can get tips and advice on living a ‘greener’ life next month, at the second of Broxtowe Borough Council’s Green Festival Events taking place this year.

The next event takes place at Colliers Wood on Saturday 18 June between 12.00pm and 3.00pm. 

The festival is free to attend and offers a fantastic opportunity for individuals and families to find out how they can make changes to reduce their carbon footprint and learn from leading experts about recycling, composting, climate change, wildflowers, biodiversity and much more. The event will be supported by The Friends of Colliers Wood.

Local plumber plans to expand thanks to Stapleford Town Centre Recovery Fund

Improvements to a plumbing and heating showroom will pave the way for a bright post-Covid future for local plumber Ryan Leggat, thanks to a £6,000 grant from the Stapleford Town Centre Recovery Fund.

Ryan, from Stapleford, who set up Ryan Plumbing and Heating in 2006, saw a gap in the market for a showroom in the town, and has worked hard towards opening his store fully to the public this month. However, the pandemic and increasing costs of building materials meant that some of the jobs he wanted to do to complete his showroom were no longer possible.

600 tonnes of carbon emissions to be saved by Council vehicle fleet

Around 600 tonnes of carbon emissions will be saved after plans to transition Broxtowe Borough Council’s vehicle fleet to biofuel were given the green light by its Cabinet on Tuesday 24 May.

That’s equivalent to making 2,531 round trips in a petrol car from London to Glasgow. £42,000 was approved to make the move and help the Council move closer to its target to become carbon neutral by 31 December 2027.

£6,000 Grant For Beeston Royal British Legion

The Beeston Branch of the Royal British Legion (RBL) will benefit from a £6,000 grant from Broxtowe Borough Council.

The Council’s Cabinet agreed the grant on Tuesday (24 May) which the RBL Social Club will use to continue refurbishment works to ensure the building meets health and safety standards.

Councillor Greg Marshall, Portfolio Holder for Resources and Personnel Policy said: “The Royal British Legion Social Club has played an essential role in supporting Broxtowe’s veterans for over 70 years and is an incredibly important venue in the Borough. This grant will make certain that improvements can be made to ensure the safety of guests and staff.”
