Happy Chinese New Year from Broxtowe Borough Council!
Broxtowe would like to wish everybody a Happy Chinese New Year - it's the year of the tiger!
Wishing you health, wealth and good fortune.
Green Rewards: Choose to re-use when out and about
More people are turning to reusable items in recent years as they have become aware of the detrimental effects of single-use plastic.
As part of our Green Rewards incentive, we are encouraging people to choose to re-use when out and about - see three common products which can be swapped for more sustainable alternatives below.
Plastic carrier bags – switch to fabric
Reusable bags are available in most retail outlets and supermarkets and they don’t cost the earth. To ensure you don't forget to take your reusable bag when you shop, hang it near your front door or somewhere you can easily see it.
Plastic bottles – switch to stainless steel
Did you know that the average UK resident uses 150 plastic water bottles every year? Not only does this damage the environment – that’s a lot spent buying bottles! Stainless steel bottles can be purchased for less than £10 and can be refilled as many times as you like.
Plastic straws – switch to metal or silicone
The reusable straw market has exploded in the UK in recent years. Metal, glass and silicone straws are easy to find in shops and online and they allow you to enjoy a drink sustainably.
To find out about more single-use items, sign up for Green Rewards and choose to Opt In to receive a list of single-use items every week - tick the boxes of the items you'd avoided or swapped for reusable alternatives and you'll earn up to 125 Green Points.

The Council are looking for seven designs which are simple and are easy to recreate - once submitted, the winning designs will be selected and will be converted into mosaic templates ready to be made in workshops. It is hoped the mosaics will be completed by the end of April and will then be placed in Queen Elizabeth Park.
