Climate change is a detrimental issue everyone is aware of – but not everybody knows what they can do to reduce their carbon footprint.
Luckily Green Rewards, which launched in October 2021, makes it easy for participants to make small but effective changes which will reduce their carbon footprint.
Hundreds of residents across Broxtowe have joined and so far the programme has had an incredible impact - by carrying out a total of 5,000 green actions users have saved:
- 17 tonnes of carbon
- 77,000 litres of water
- 5 tonnes of residual waste
- 1603 single use items
From cutting your shower time by just a few minutes to shopping locally, Green Rewards introduces people to greener habits which generate ‘Green points’ and these can be exchanged for a variety of vouchers and biodiversity prizes.
There are 2 winners chosen for vouchers every month - one who has earned the most points and one who is picked at random to give people more of a chance of winning. The £20 vouchers to choose from include:
- Boobalou voucher
- National Garden Gift voucher
- Marks & Spencer voucher
- John Lewis voucher
- National Book Token
In regards to the biodiversity prizes that are gifted, every six months a ward is selected and they will be able to choose an exciting green project to take part in from the following:
- Wildflower annuals
- Hedge Planting
- Tree Planting
- Bulb Planting
