COVID-19 Vaccination Bus in Beeston

The COVID-19 Vaccination Bus is coming to Beeston on the 10th and 21st January.

The bus will be at Devonshire Avenue car park in Beeston between 10am and 12:30pm and will then move to Beeston Fields Recreation Ground 1pm - 4pm.

Vaccinations are for 18s and over and you can get your first, second and booster jab on the bus.

If you know someone that has been struggling to get an appointment or make it to a vaccination site, please share this information with them.

There's no need to book, just turn up.


Walk-in vaccination sites across Nottingham and Nottinghamshire

There's currently many walk-in sites across Nottingham and Nottinghamshire where you can get your COVID-19 vaccination - the two major local sites offering jabs are:

  • Forest Recreation Ground at Forest Fields, Gregory Boulevard, NG7 6HB
  • Queen's Medical Centre in Lenton, NG7 2UH

These sites offer:

  • First doses
  • Second doses
  • Booster doses
  • Third doses for people with weakened immune systems

COVID Vaccinations for School Students aged 12-15 to start from 10th January

To combat the spread of coronavirus, the NHS's School Aged Immunisation Service will start a vaccination programme in Nottinghamshire schools on 10th January.

Students aged 12-15 years will be offered their first or second dose of the vaccine, which will be provided by school immunisation teams.

If you are a parent or guardian, you will receive a letter or email with information about when the vaccine will be offered, and you'll be asked to give consent.

Students of this age group can also choose to book online or visit a walk-in vaccination site, although parents or guardians should attend to give consent.

New rules regarding positive lateral flow results

As coronavirus infection rates are still high across the UK, from 11th January you will be required to self-isolate immediately if you get a positive lateral flow test result and will not need to take a follow-up PCR test.

If you develop any of the three main COVID-19 symptoms - a high temperature, loss of taste or smell or a persistent cough - you should self-isolate and take a PCR test. Even if you have had a negative lateral flow result, you need to self-isolate straight away if you receive a positive PCR result.

Department of Health and Social Care launches Better Health

On 4 January, the Department of Health and Social Care launched 'Better Health', a brand new campaign which makes it easier for UK residents to keep healthy - by getting involved, you can avoid serious illness and reduce your risk of being hospitalised from COVID-19.

In conjunction with 15 weight management and physical activity partners, Better Health is providing free and discounted offers to help you to live a healthier and more balanced lifestyle.

Six benefits of being a healthier weight that the programme highlights include:

  • Decreased risk of common cancers
  • Lowered risk of increased blood pressure
  • Reduced risk of heart disease
  • Less risk of developing diabetes
  • Less strain from chronic back and joint pain
  • Decreased risk of being hospitalised or becoming seriously ill with COVID-19

  • The seller – do they look official, is the website or platform well known and do they have a returns policy?
  • Making payments – always beware of retailers asking for payment to be made via bank transfer
  • Your instincts – always trust your instincts – does the item on offer look and feel like an authentic product?
  • Safety markings – do items, have EU and UK safety markings?
  • The price – if the price looks too good to be true, it most probably is

Bike Marking Event launches In Beeston North

On Saturday 15th January 2022, The Mayor of Broxtowe, Councillor Richard MacRae, accompanied by Beeston North Ward Councillors Barbara and Steve Carr will be holding a bicycle marking event on Beeston Fields Recreation Ground.
The event is the first in a series of Borough-wide initiatives forming part of Broxtowe Borough Council’s new Bike Theft Prevention Plan.

Using the UK’s national, police approved, bicycle marking and registration scheme; BikeRegister, children and adults can come along between 11am and 1pm and get their bike registered for free.

New Year, New Opportunities for Stapleford

The Stapleford Town Deal Executive Board is looking forward to the growth and investment in Stapleford for 2022.

At the end of 2021 the Executive Board announced the launch of its first project, the Town Centre Recovery Fund.

The Board is urging Stapleford businesses to start getting their applications ready for Monday 10th January 2022, when the online application goes live.

The fund will provide lots of exciting opportunities for businesses on the high street, with £1million of grant support being invested in to the town.

Final week to have your say on ambitious plans for the future of Chetwynd and Toton

Residents of Nottinghamshire and Derbyshire are being urged to have their say on exciting plans to create jobs, housing and transport links in and around Toton and Chetwynd, before Broxtowe Borough Council’s public consultation come to an end on Friday 14th January.

The scheduled closure of the historic Chetwynd Barracks in 2026, and any proposed transport works around the potential Toton East Midlands Hub, provide a once in a lifetime opportunity to map out the future for the area, create cycle pathways, green spaces, new schools, healthcare facilities and modern communities, which offer affordable and carbon neutral homes.

Self-isolating

If you develop symptoms of COVID-19, stay at home and self-isolate immediately. If you have a positive test result but do not have symptoms, stay at home and self-isolate as soon as you receive the results.

Financial support

The impact of the pandemic on you and your loved ones and not being able to enjoy all of the activities you would normally be involved in can all have an impact on your health. It is important to remember to look after yourself. If you have symptoms or a health concern you are worried about, please contact your GP practice. GP practices are still open and here for you. When you call your practice, you may be offered a consultation online or over the phone. If they feel they need to see you in person, they will invite you in for a face to face appointment.
