Talk Money Week
8th - 12th November
People in the UK don’t talk about their money enough. Despite the COVID-19 crisis affecting our finances, 9 in 10 UK adults – that’s 47 million of us – don’t find it any easier to talk about money, or don’t even discuss it at all.
However, by having a conversation, you can improve your physical, mental and financial wellbeing. You can find all the ways 'Talk Money Week' can help you by visiting the website.
Furthermore, if any of our tenants need money advice, our Financial Inclusion Officers are here to help. You can talk to our Income Team for a referral on 0115 917 777 or visit our website for more information.

White Ribbon
25th November
White Ribbon Day is on the 25th November.
This year round campaign is to raise awareness around saying no to domestic abuse.
On the lead up to the day, the White Ribbon Team, Ambassadors and partners including Broxtowe Women's Project have been out and about getting the message into communities.
Full Council
The White Ribbon team set up their stall outside the Full Council meeting on Wednesday 13th October and asked Councillors to pledge the promise and get involved. It was a great success and through discussions we gained many ideas for events and future actions

Eastwood Community Football Club
On Saturday 16th October, the White Ribbon team took their stall to an Eastwood Community Football Club home game.
They spoke to different members of the community and the event was supported by the Mayor of Broxtowe, Cllr Richard MacRae, and the Leader of the Council, Cllr Milan Radulovic.
“I was delighted to be asked to attend the event at Eastwood Football Club. I am a keen supporter of the White Ribbon campaign, so any events where I can show my support I am happy to do so. I look forward to attending the White Ribbon Day itself next month.” Mayor of Broxtowe, Cllr Richard MacRae
Thank you to the club for allowing us to be part of the day.
If you or someone you know is experiencing domestic abuse please visit our Domestic Abuse web page or call 999 if life is in danger.

Hopkins Court Hero
This time last year we were in another lockdown, and this one saw the cold night's drawing in.
However, there has been a continuous light over the pandemic for the residents of Hopkins court.
|
A tenant and her partner have been supporting their neighbours from cooking dinners, getting together for a social distanced cuppa, or running errands.
What made you decide to help?
'There were so many of neighbours in our community who began to feel lonely, especially when family were unable to visit. So, we decided to help.
We took them to the doctors to get their Covid and Flu jabs. Also, if we hadn't heard from them by a certain time each day we'd check in to see how they were.'
I hear you love cooking and baking?
'Yes, that was my career before I retired. I'm always in the kitchen making something. It could be dinners for our neighbours or treats for the activities held here.
We tell our neighbours to stop by before going to the shops, as we're most likely have it in. It saves them a trip out and means we're not wasting anything either.'
|
I hear you both received a special letter?
Our next door neighbour was having a hard time not being able to see family. We cooked dinners, chatted everyday and supported her how we could.
Sadly, she passed a few months ago but to commemorate her we put together a little memorial garden. She loved the birds, so in the garden is a bird house, feeder and bird bath.
We received a lovely letter from her family 'All of us from the family, would just like to say a massive thank you for being there for Mum in the last year of lockdown until her passing. You certainly enriched her life.' It means a lot to us and will cherish our memories with her.'

What's the future for your community?
When the weathers nice we've been sitting outside and enjoying each others company. But now with it getting colder we'd like to start going on trips and days out, as a larger group.
And hopefully, host Christmas dinner, as food really does bring people together and it's a great way to connect with others and build those friendships.
And, finally what are your top tips to prevent loneliness?
- Speak up. If you need help, be brave and tell someone
- Make friends. There's always someone around, so go knock on your neighbours door and introduce yourself
- Keep your mind active. Keep going and don't give up
- Get out into the fresh air, it does a world of good and clears the mind
- Get motivated. Find a new hobby or rekindle a past one. Do something you love, you're worth it!
We all feel lonely from time to time. Feelings of loneliness are personal, so everyone's experience of loneliness will be different. If you need support visit NHS website for more information, or why not join in with social activities run at our Independent Living Schemes.

Boiler Safety this Winter
As the days are getting colder, here are some tips to keep you boiler safe this winter.
Don't leave it too late
It's normal to have your central heating off over the warmer months. However, it is important to turn your heating back on early and check that everything is working efficiently.
Check your Boiler pressure
Your boiler pressure is usually indicated on the boiler by a dial. The optimum boiler pressure is between 1 and 1.5 when the system is cool. If your boiler has lost pressure, this is something you can quickly resolve yourself. You can do this by watching these videos.
Gas Servicing
We undertake annual servicing of gas appliances within our properties, to ensure you boiler is in optimum working condition and safe for you and your family.
We will contact you each year with an appointment when your annual service is due. It is important that you keep this appointment and give our engineers access to carry out these vital checks. If you are unable to keep your appointment, please contact us immediately to rearrange.
For more tips about repairs and details on what are tenants' responsibility download our Repairs Handbook.
