Hop onto the COVID-19 vaccination bus

bus

The NHS COVID-19 vaccination bus will be coming into Beeston Fields on Tuesday 3rd August.

Anyone who is eligible can get the jab anytime between 11.00am – 3.00pm at Beeston Fields, Recreation Ground, Central Avenue, Beeston NG9 2QT.

There is no need to book an appointment and there will be both first and second vaccinations available.

If you have anyone living in your house or know anyone who is yet to have the vaccination, please let them know the vaccination bus is available to them. If you can't come along on the day, there are plenty of places you can get your vaccination from. You can find a list here.

Thank you to all of our residents who have already had the vaccination, it’s important we all do our part to keep each other safe.

Keep testing throughout summer

summer testing

It's important throughout the summer holidays that testing is still being carried out as it remains an essential part of stopping the spread of COVID-19.

Even if you or your children have no symptoms we should all keep up the good practice of continuing to take a rapid lateral flow test twice a week. If you have symptoms of coronavirus you should take a PCR test.

Tests can be collected from pharmacies, community collection points and ordered online for delivery to your home.

Don’t forget to report your results whether they’re negative, positive or void.

Free healthy activities programme returns for the school summer holidays

children

Eligible children and young people in Broxtowe can take part in a free holiday club over the school summer break.

The Holiday Activities and Food (HAF) programme offers activities in August for 5-16-year olds across Broxtowe and Nottinghamshire, as well as an offer for vulnerable children, and a tailored offer for young people with special educational needs and disabilities.

Families with children eligible for free school meals are being encouraged to book onto the programme, which includes sport, art, music, and more. All children and young people who attend one of the activities will get a free healthy and nutritious meal and can also take part in interactive ways to learn more about healthy eating. The sessions will give young people the chance to learn new skills and to have fun with friends during the summer holiday period.

There are lots of activities for young people to attend in person now that coronavirus restrictions have eased, but there is also  a ‘HAF at Home’ offer for those that can’t, or don’t wish to, attend in person.

Toton and Chetwynd Link Road scheme set to move forward

A major new road in Nottinghamshire which would link the proposed HS2 hub at Toton to thousands of new homes in the surrounding area has moved a step closer.

The Toton and Chetwynd Link Road is part of a wide-ranging and high-profile regeneration project that will help unlock employment and development opportunities in the area and bring in millions of pounds to the county’s economy.

Nottinghamshire county councillors agreed to move the project forward at a meeting of the Economic Development and Asset Management Committee today (Wednesday 28 July).

It means early pre-construction work with Arc Partnership can begin on the jobs-boosting scheme, which also forms part of the Toton and Chetwynd Barracks Strategic Masterplan.

Stolen dog reunited thanks to its microchip

stolen dog

On the 20th July our Neighbourhood warden Kathryn Trevor was alerted to a stray dog that had been found in the Brinsley area. Amber, the dog was routinely scanned for a microchip and luckily had one.

The dog had been reported as stolen three days earlier from Scotland. Amber was stolen along with another dog who is still missing.

From our figures between 2019 - 2021 there has been increase of stray dogs found that either do not have a microchip or the owners details are not up to date.

With the numbers of reporting stolen dogs increasing we are reminding owners that microchipping became compulsory for all dogs back in 2016 and it is a legal requirement that all dogs from the age of 8 weeks old should be microchipped.

Microchipping provides the security of knowing that should your pet stray, the chances of being reunited will significantly increase.

Amber is now back home safe with her family who are still desperately trying to locate the second dog which may also be in the area.
