Tributes paid to the Duke of Edinburgh
Broxtowe Borough Council is extremely saddened to hear of the passing of Royal Highness, the Duke of Edinburgh.
Leader of the Council, Councillor Milan Radulovic, MBE said, ''On behalf of all residents of Broxtowe, we convey our most heartfelt condolences to the Her Majesty the Queen and her family.
The Duke made a remarkable contribution to our nation and will be celebrated with pride and grateful remembrance.
We will all remember him fondly for carrying out his official duties professionally and for being a constant companion and Consort to Her Majesty the Queen during their many years of marriage.”
We understand that many will want to pay tribute, but we will provide further information on this when it becomes available.

COVID-19 Updates
Step 2 On The Roadmap
 From Monday 12 April further restrictions will be eased as we enter Step 2 of the Roadmap out of lockdown.
Many businesses and activities will be able to reopen including:
- all non-essential retail
- hospitality venues that can serve people outdoors
- personal care premises such as hairdressers and nail salons
- public buildings, including libraries and community centres
- indoor leisure facilities such as gyms (but only for use by people on their own or in household groups)
- most outdoor attractions and settings including outdoor hospitality venues, zoos, theme parks, and drive-in cinemas
- self-contained accommodation such as campsites and holiday lets, where indoor facilities are not shared with other households
NHS Track and Trace Update
From April 12 all businesses and venues you visit will have to comply with Track and Trace. There will be some differences in how businesses have to collect your details:
- Every customer or visitor aged 16 and over must check in to the venue
- This can no longer be done as a nominated contact covering a group, every individual must do their own
Individuals can check in quickly and easily using the NHS COVID-19 app to scan in the NHS QR code poster.
If you don't have a smart phone or can't access the NHS COVID-19 app then please let the business or venue know and they will need to take your details manually.
Latest Statement on the Astra Zeneca vaccine
The JCVI advises that all individuals offered a COVID-19 vaccine should be fully informed about the benefits and risks of vaccination.
It has been advised by the JCVI that it is preferable that healthy under 30s be offered an alternative for the Astra Zeneca vaccine where possible. The risks from the vaccine are small and if you are offered a vaccine, you should take it.
Twice weekly rapid testing available now to everyone over 18
 All Nottinghamshire residents 18 and over will be able to access free, rapid lateral flow tests (LFTs) for themselves and their families twice a week.
From 9 April people aged 18 and over will be able to collect 2 boxes of 7 tests per person or 4 boxes per family from our community testing sites:
- Stapleford Library - Tuesday - Saturday
- Newdigate Car Park, Kimberley - Tuesdays and Fridays
People collecting boxes from our community sites can also have a supervised test to help ensure that tests done at home are accurate.
If testing at home, people will need to register their results online or by calling 119. They should self-isolate if positive and order a confirmatory PCR test.

Shop Local, Support Broxtowe
Monday 12 April is a big day for our local Broxtowe businesses as all non-essential retail and hospitality venues open back up.
Our businesses have been working hard to prepare to open safely for all of our residents.
Please help support them by shopping local, sticking to the current guidance on hands, face, space, fresh air and please be patient as businesses get back up and running as they are all looking forward to welcoming you back.

Beeston Market is back
Our weekly Beeston market is reopening Monday 12 April and will be running every Monday and Wednesday, from 8.00am - 3.00pm.
All stall holders will be following current COVID-19 guidance so the market will be COVID - Secure for our residents. Please help them by following the current hands, face, space guidance.
Every Monday and Wednesday you will find a fresh fruit, veg and egg stall.
There are plenty of other stalls available across the two days which can range from:
- Sweets and confectionary
- Towels and housewares
- Ladies clothes
- Ladies and gent shoes
- Beeston Brownies
Plus many more... make sure you get yourself down for the reopening you won't be disappointed!

Support Available
Self-isolating
If you develop symptoms of Covid-19, stay at home and self-isolate immediately. If you have a positive test result but do not have symptoms, stay at home and self-isolate as soon as you receive the results. Your household needs to isolate too.

Financial support

Mental health
The impact of the pandemic on you and your loved ones and not being able to enjoy all of the activities you would normally be involved in can all have an impact on your health. It is important to remember to look after yourself. Useful resources to support you, your family and friends can be found at www.broxtowe.gov.uk/wellbeing or call the Nottinghamshire Mental Health Helpline between 9.00am and 1.00pm, seven days a week on 0300 555 0730.
Accessing NHS services
If you have symptoms or a health concern you are worried about, please contact your GP practice. GP practices are still open and here for you. When you call your practice, you may be offered a consultation online or over the phone. If they feel they need to see you in person, they will invite you in for a face to face appointment. Our parks and open spaces are generally mown every two weeks from April to October, depending on weather conditions. This is to create accessible open spaces that are attractive and provide space for people to enjoy active recreation in Broxtowe.
Mowing is undertaken for a number of reasons:
- To create accessible green spaces
- To help with safety by cutting vegetation at road junctions
- To make areas feel more welcoming and appealing
There are nearly 200 hectares of parks and open spaces to maintain in Broxtowe. Not all these are grass areas but this puts in perspective the areas that need to be maintained.
