Community Testing

Rapid Community Testing comes to Kimberley

Kimberley community testing

Community testing for people who don't have COVID-19 symptoms is now available in Kimberley.

The unit will be open between 10:00am and 5:30pm every Tuesday and Friday from 19th March at Newdigate Street Car Park, Kimberley for local residents to get an asymptomatic COVID-19 test.

The new mobile sites give anyone the opportunity to get tested.  This will be particularly helpful to working aged-residents, with no symptoms, who have to travel to work.  No appointments are necessary at the testing site, when you arrive you’ll be asked to register to get your results.

The test only takes a few seconds and within 40 minutes the result is delivered directly to your smartphone if you have one. The test is designed to identify anyone who may have the virus and who may be, unwittingly, putting their colleagues, households or support bubbles at risk.

An asymptomatic testing site is also available at Stapleford Library on Tuesdays - Saturdays.

Vaccination updates

Appointments now open to over 50s

COVID vaccine

If you are over 50, you can now make an appointment for your COVID-19 vaccine.

If you are in one of the following ‘cohort 6’ groups, you are also eligible for the covid vaccine. It is important to take up the opportunity to be vaccinated, as it is the best possible protection against the virus. If you are in one of these groups and you are pregnant, you can still have the covid vaccination. You can discuss the benefits of the vaccine with a health professional.

You are eligible if you:

  • are ‘clinically vulnerable’ (between the ages of 16 to 65 with underlying health conditions which put you at a higher risk of serious disease or mortality)
  • are eligible for a carer’s allowance
  • are the main carer of an elderly or disabled person, whose welfare may be at risk if the carer falls ill
  • have a learning disability
  • have autism
  • have dementia.

Book your appointment online or call 0115 883 4640 (between 8am – 8pm Mon – Fri or 9am – 5pm Sat – Sun).

COVID-19 guidance update

The roadmap will be driven by data not dates

Lockdown lifting

The Government’s roadmap out of lockdown will be decided based on data such as the vaccine programme and reducing infection rates. If we want to give ourselves the best chance of having restrictions lifted on the dates set out then it’s really important we all continue to follow the rules to keep each other safe.

One minutes silence to mark the one year anniversary of the first lockdown

Mayor

There will be a national one minutes silence at 12.00 noon on Tuesday 23rd March to mark the one year anniversary of the UK entering the first lockdown.

The silence is an opportunity to remember those who have sadly died and pay thanks to those who have sacrificed and worked to keep others safe.

Residents are also invited to light a candle at 8.00pm to remember those we have lost.

Mayor of the Borough of Broxtowe, Councillor Janet Patrick said: “Today we are joining in a one-minutes silence to mark the one year anniversary of the first lockdown. This silence is an incredibly important moment for us to remember all those who have sadly died and keep those who have lost someone in our thoughts. It’s also a chance for us to reflect on the hard work of people up and down the country to keep people safe, particularly our NHS and Key Workers, as well as the sacrifices each and every one of us has made over the last 12 months. Taking this time to reflect is an important part of the process to help us move forward and look ahead to the future.”
