Dementia Friendly Homes Completed

Broxtowe Borough Mayor - Cllr Janet standing outside Dementia friendly home in Beeston

Two new dementia friendly bungalows have been completed on the site of the former Beeston Market, ready for new occupants to move in shortly.

The new occupants have said, “We are so looking forward to moving into the new bungalow. It will make such a difference to us and enable my husband to gain back some of his independence.”

The homes, on Willoughby Street, have been developed by Broxtowe Borough Council as part of its House Building Delivery Plan which is designed to meet the housing needs of the local community.

The homes include:

  • Open plan living with good visual connection of spaces.
  • Detailed design will address visual clarity, appropriate colours & contrasts, ergonomic handles/supports and a variety of visual keys.

The properties have also been built to high energy efficiency standards and include photovoltaic panels and air source heat pumps with under floor heating to help us with our target to become carbon neutral by 2027.

Top Tips for Keeping Your Community Tidy

Bulky waste image - two people carrying a sofa

With many of us spending more time at home, the home projects have become reality. Which can mean more waste is created! So, here are some top tips to help you reduce waste and keep your community tidy.

  1. Bulky Items? Use our service to get rid of those items quickly. Visit our Bulky Waste Webpage for more details.
  2. Don't throw it in the 'communal areas'. Don't need it? Get rid. Recycling centres are open!
  3. Grab some house plants. They brighten up your home and provide clean air.
  4. Report it. See any fly tipping, repairs or missed bins etc... report it and we'll sort it. If you want to report anything to do with roads, please contact Nottingham County Council.
  5. Tidy up that Garden. You can enjoy the space you have created by getting your garden summer ready.

Significant activity is witnessed worldwide as groups come together to celebrate women's achievements or rally for women's equality.

#ChoosetoChallenge is the theme for this years International Women's Day. We can choose to challenge and call out gender bias and inequality. We can choose to seek out and celebrate women's achievements.

Collectively, we can all help create an inclusive world.
