COVID-19 Update
 It is not yet clear what will happen when the current National Restrictions end on 2nd December but we will keep residents and businesses updated as soon as we hear further information from Government.

Stay at Home
Only go out for:
- Buying essentials, such as food and medicine
- Collecting orders, including take-aways
- Childcare or education
- Work or volunteering
- Exercise
- Any medical reason (yourself and others)
- Legal or property reason
- To visit members of your support bubble
- To provide care for vulnerable people, emergency assistance, attend a support group or receive respite care
- To avoid or escape risk of harm
- Vets appointment or other animal welfare
When Visiting Care Homes
Visits allowed with safety guidance in place. Check arrangement with the home before you visit.
Travel Advice
- Avoid travelling and reduce the number of journeys you make
- Walk or cycle where possible, and avoid busy times and routes on public transport
- Overnight stays and holidays away from your home are not allowed
Clinically Extremely Vulnerable Guidance
The Government's latest guidance for people who are clinically extremely vulnerable has been updated and is available on the Government website.
Furlough Scheme Update
The Government have extended the Furlough scheme to March and increased self-employment support. Further information can be found on the Government website.
Recognising COVID-19 symptoms
 It is in your hands to take action and prevent the spread of coronavirus in our communities. If you have symptoms of COVID-19 – high temperature, continuous cough or loss of taste or smell – self-isolate immediately and book a test online or call 119. Please do not go to A&E or call your GP to get a test.
Everyone must continue to play their part by following national restrictions and hands, face and space guidance in full to help us to get more control over the virus and give us all the chance of a potentially normal Christmas.
Business Support Grants
The Government recently announced a second wave of business support, which is now being administered by local Councils, to provide cash grants for businesses that have been affected when entering Tier 2, Tier 3 and National Lockdown restrictions.
We have received more than 500 applications for these grants so far (in the first week alone) and we expect many more in the coming weeks.
Applications which fulfil the criteria should receive payment within 14 days.

Financial support
In some circumstances, if you are required by law to self-isolate, you may be supported by a payment of £500, payable from Broxtowe Borough Council. Find out more about this scheme and other financial support at www.broxtowe.gov.uk/testandtracepayment or call 0115 917 7777
Mental health
The impact of the pandemic on you and your loved ones and not being able to enjoy all of the activities you would normally be involved in can all have an impact on your health. It is important to remember to look after yourself. Accessing NHS services
If you have symptoms or a health concern you are worried about, please contact your GP practice. GP practices are still open and here for you. When you call your practice, you may be offered a consultation online or over the phone. If they feel they need to see you in person, they will invite you in for a face to face appointment. Are you eligible for the flu vaccine?
 This winter more than ever, with COVID-19 still circulating, we need to help reduce all avoidable risks. You can help protect the NHS, social care and loved ones by getting the flu vaccine – the single most effective way to prevent getting the flu and protecting those close to you.
Those eligible for the free vaccine are:
- People over 65 years
- Pregnant women
- School children up to year 7
- Toddlers aged 2 – 3 years
- Carers
- People with underlying health conditions.
The Mayor's Christmas Appeal
 This year has presented the Country with many challenges and Broxtowe has not been any different. Christmas will look very different this year and we are keen to encourage as many residents to shop locally as we can, safely.
As part of the Mayor’s Christmas Appeal we would like to offer those in need, vouchers that can be redeemed at participating local businesses. If you are a local business or you know a local business, please share this message with them so they can be a part of this special appeal.
How does it work?
- Businesses will be presented with specially-printed vouchers.
- Customers can hand these over to be exchanged for goods.
- Broxtowe Borough Council will reimburse for the monetary value of the vouchers on each transaction.

Libraries deliver books and DVDs
 Inspire Libraries libraries click and collect home delivery service is proving popular with customers who are staying at home during the current restrictions.
During the last month, volunteers delivered 355 books to the doorsteps of those unable to collect books for themselves.
This Winter - Poem by Jay Trivedi
Our Waste and Recycling Coordinator, Jay Trivedi, recorded a poem he has written to capture the mood of this winter.
The heart-warming poem was read by Jay, filmed by himself and has been shared with our social media followers this week.
And as Jay says "Just a little longer now; Keep cheering each other on. And stronger together; We will fight coronavirus this winter".

Resident ideas taken forward
The Let’s Talk Broxtowe Consultation, asked residents for suggestions and ideas the Council could consider as part of its delivery of the plan. The plan aims to make Broxtowe a greener, safer, healthier Borough, where everyone prospers.
Councillor Milan Radulovic MBE, Leader of the Council said: “Given everything additional we have had to deliver this year during the pandemic, I think this list shows some really excellent progress and we are very grateful to all the staff involved. Over the coming months, we will be continuing to work through the remaining ideas suggested, along with delivering on the objectives we set out in the plan. Responding and planning our recovery from COVID-19 will also be a top priority.”

COVID Marshals work with COVID Information Officers
New COVID marshals Elizabeth and Mark, are joining COVID information officers Janice and Zahid as part of the Broxtowe Borough Council team recruited to step up support during the pandemic.
The Council has received an additional £47k from the Government to recruit these marshals, whose job it is to support people and local businesses in Broxtowe and ensure everyone continues to adhere to the COVID-19 rules.
The aim of the marshals is to boost local enforcement capacity and help slow the spread of coronavirus. The Marshals do not have enforcement powers but will be reminding people to follow the rules by wearing face coverings and socially distancing.
Free Bulky Waste Collections - more coming soon
 We have had an amazing response to our most recent Free Bulky Waste Collections Week, which is the week of 7th December. All the slots booked up in just two hours when we opened up for bookings this week!
Thank you to all our residents for disposing of your waste responsibly and if you missed out this time, don't worry, there'll be more free collections announced soon.
