Thank you for your support and patience

We'd like to say thank you to our residents and communities for their patience and support this week whilst we work to respond to the Coronavirus (COVID-19) outbreak and keep services running.

We'd also like to thank the local community for the help they have given each other at a time when it is vitally important that we come together and support one another.

Below is some information on the latest news around Coronavirus and how you can keep up to date over the coming days and weeks.

Coordinated Response

We want to reassure you that as a Local Authority we are working with the police, fire, health and social care, voluntary sector and businesses on a daily basis to keep you updated and to implement support as soon as we possibly can as we continue to see the rapid changes we are all facing.

This will allow us to connect and share ideas, resources and staff across the network to operate services effectively, ensuring our staff are working as hard as they can to keep services running and provide the support that our communities need.

Support in the community

Many residents who are required to self-isolate will be receiving support from family, friends, and neighbours. This is to be encouraged and should be the first option where possible to enable the most vulnerable to get the support they need, as quickly as possible.

The Council is working with trusted partners and the local community to signpost people to the help they might need, particularly if they are vulnerable or self-isolating.

We are also pro-actively contacting residents that we are aware of who fall into the vulnerable category.

Many mutual aid groups have been set up in the local community, which is great to see. You can see a list of those that we are aware of below, along with some guidance on protecting yourself from scams and fraudsters who may take the current situation as an opportunity to target vulnerable people.

We have updated our website with detailed information on support for individuals and the community and anticipate a further update on Monday so please check back next week.

Staying up to date

The easiest way to stay up to date is by checking our dedicated Coronavirus webpages. These are updated twice daily, in the morning and afternoons, Monday to Friday.

They contain useful information on:

  • Staying at home
  • Social distancing
  • Protecting yourself and others
  • Affected Council Services
  • Support for businesses
  • Support for individuals and the community

We also share daily updates on our social media accounts (morning and afternoon) and will be sending you this email bulletin every Friday.

If you're a local business, you'll also receive a weekly bulletin on a Wednesday and if you're a tenant, you'll get one on Mondays.

Fake News

We know that there is lots of information circulating around coronavirus and it can be hard to distinguish what's fact and what's fiction. We recommend only checking and sharing information from the official websites and social media accounts of Public Health England, NHS and GOV.UK, as well as the Council and blue-light services.

Google and Facebook are already working with these organisations to remove any fake news by bringing and highlighting these websites at the top of your Google search webpage.

Please share the information in this email bulletin with friends, family, neighbours and colleagues to help us pass on these important messages, particularly if they're not online.

Please also encourage anyone who isn't already subscribed to this Email Me Service to sign up at www.broxtowe.gov.uk/emailme so they can receive these updates.
