Celebrating 100 Years of Council Housing

100 Years of Council Housing graphic

Did you know that the 1919 Housing Act was commonly known as the Addison Act? This was due to Lord Christopher Addison, the Minister for Health and Housing pacing the way for funding to build 500,000 council homes over three years.

We recently spoke to some of our tenants who shared their experiences of living in Council Housing:

  • One of our oldest tenants is Mr Foy, who turns 100 in September! We chatted to him about why he enjoys living in one of our Independent Living Schemes.
  • Mr and Mrs McDowall, have lived in the same Council house for around 68 years. We sat down with them to discover how things have changed over the years and why they love being a council tenant.

You can watch these short videos on our You Tube channel.
